Various scenarios: what would you do?

It'll look like this (of course in keeping with the proper chain of command)

Pope: RT @OneTrueGod Guys, you can use condoms now #freelove. For further instructions visit my website http://www.contraception.god

Having that toplevel domain would absolutely rule, too
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

A French letter from god... neat.

"The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions" - Leonardo da Vinci

"I think I use the term “radical” rather loosely, just for emphasis. If you describe yourself as “atheist,” some people will say, “Don’t you mean ‘agnostic’?” I have to reply that I really do mean atheist, I really do not believe that there is a god; in fact, I am convinced that there is not a god (a subtle difference). I see not a shred of evidence to suggest that there is one ... etc., etc. It’s easier to say that I am a radical atheist, just to signal that I really mean it, have thought about it a great deal, and that it’s an opinion I hold seriously." - Douglas Adams (and I echo the sentiment)

If they ever picked a pope under the age of 138 then they could totally use Twitter.

If Richard Dawkins can embarrass himself on Twitter, the next pope can, too.

1.
A) No.
B) No.

2.
A) Yes.
B) No. I'd make it so people had a full array of choices, but only chose to do good.
C) No. Worship me if you'd like, don't if you don't want to. I don't care either way.
D) Yes.
E) I'd use a form of communication that would guarantee everyone would believe me. Which form of communication, you ask? I'd be omniscient, so I'd know.
The truth is absolute. Life forms are specks of specks (...) of specks of dust in the universe.
Why settle for normal, when you can be so much more? Why settle for something, when you can have everything?

RE: Various scenarios: what would you do?
Quote:1) God appears to you. You are 100% sure this is the real, one true God.

A) He instructs you to kill your friends and family. He doesn't say why. Will you do it?

I would not do it. Even if my family were going to destroy the world, there is no reason except cruelty, for a god to ask one of the members of that family to kill everyone. He could poof everyone away or change their futures or order someone less emotionally invested to kill my family. Even if it was the real god, the request would just prove that god is an asshole.

Quote:B) Christians: he is Allah. Yahweh is fictional. Allah is just as described in the Quran.
Non-christians: he is Yahweh. He is just as described in the bible.

Will you worship this God?

No, I will not.

Quote:2) You have just replaced God. You're in full control of everything, and have unlimited power. You can ensure any changes you make have no negative consequences.

A) Would you put an end to the suffering in the world?

If I was god, I wouldn't want to rule or be worshipped; in fact, I would probably encourage people to not worship anything but to think for themselves. To make the world a better place, I would fix human brains so there aren't any mental illnesses. There would be no sociopaths or psychopaths. Adults would no longer have any desire to have sex with children either. Humans would have more automatic empathy for one another.

Men and women would have to desire a pregnancy to be fertile. That would lower the population so that there isn't as much a burden on the planet's resources. Women would not be smaller and weaker than men. Women's equal size and strength, along with increased empathy would probably prevent rapes from happening. Because I am god, I might make it so that a person could choose their own sex when they reached a certain age.

Humans would still be able to make their own decisions in their lives but they would be less inclined to hurt one another and more inclined to cooperate.

Satan wouldn't exist because I wouldn't invent him.

Maybe once humans advanced to a certain point, I would show myself but not because I wanted worship. Humans might like to know if there is other life in the universe and I guess a god like being would be considered life.

robvalue Wrote:A) He instructs you to kill your friends and family. He doesn't say why. Will you do it?

Nope. If he has the power to appear before me in some sort of physical manifestation then he also has the power to do his own dirty work.

robvalue Wrote:Will you worship this God?
Nope. I simply couldn't find any reason to do such a thing even if he did exist. Assuming that the bible is true, I would not view him as a benevolent being - only as a malevolent, jealous entity capable of performing and ordering others to perform atrocious acts to suit his righteousness. No, I wouldn't and couldn't worship such a being. If I ever did, it would only be out of fear, and I'd like to think I am more principled than that. However, I haven't faced the wrath of a deity either.

robvalue Wrote:2) You have just replaced God. You're in full control of everything, and have unlimited power. You can ensure any changes you make have no negative consequences.

A) Would you put an end to the suffering in the world?

B) Would you alter "free will" so that people only have good (non harmful) options and thoughts?

C) Would you request worship and thanks from people? If so, would you reward worship and/or punish non-worship?

D) There is this evil guy satan who keeps messing with your plans. He causes people to be evil, and all sorts of horrible stuff. Would you remove his power to do this?

E) If you wanted to communicate with the people, how would you go about it?
A) If it were in my power, I certainly would.

B) If it meant the entire world lived in peace and harmony, yes, I would alter free will. I wouldn't want a world of zombies though. I would want them to strive to excel in life, the arts, and science. I just don't want the messiness that also comes with free will (violence, crime, etc.). But I'm god...so I can sort that out, right? Wink

C) No, I wouldn't require worship and I wouldn't punish or reward for it. Rewarding worshipers and punishing non-worshipers would create a gulf between people - exactly what I wouldn't want in an ideal world of global cooperation.

D) I'm god. If there is an evil entity intentionally trying to corrupt my people, I remove him from the equation. It only seems like the right thing to do since I love my creations so much.

E) Hmmmm...town hall meetings? Big Grin
