Hiya, I remember you, I think -- or were you over at the other AF?
Anyway, cheer up. You've got your one shot, might as well make it a good'un.
Hi Atlas,
Also sorry to hear your troubles. Please don' t give up in life at only 23. Yes, there are a lot of arseholes in the world, but there are a lot of good people out there too. Perhaps you should try some travel if you are able to. It sounds to me like you have a fascinating family background, it makes you unique. I am a bit of a hybrid too: English, Welsh, French, Canadian, Jewish and an atheist. Hope you have a good time here, there are lots of interesting and friendly people. Welcome
Dude, at 23 you still have the world at your fingertips. I mean, even at 35 with two young kids I still manage to have fun every once in a while.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
Dude. I'm 38, no kids, and I manage to have fun every day!
W-wait... is the thread title a Soul Reaver reference? Because it seems like it's a Soul Reaver reference.

Is it? Very cool if it is! I love those games.
If not, make another thread with a proper reference. Feel free to send me a private message.

Welcome and hope for better times.
We live in a world which is rapidly changing and markedly different from the one in which tribes and nation states developed. The widespread availability of information and global communication is making it harder and harder to convince local communities that the people in the next village are other, evil and worthy of extermination. Not long, a couple hundred years ago, it made sense to kill all the farmers in the village next door and farm their fields. Expansion of industry and specialization of production make it preferable to trade for stuff from the next town rather than destroy their factory and have to build your own to get the same stuff. Remember, the industrial revolution only started 250 years ago, the information age only 60. Tribalism goes back at least a thousand times as far. Human behavior needs time to catch up. There are still plenty of dangers to worry about, from ecological collapse to nuclear armageddon wrought by bronze age thinkers who don't yet see that the world has changed. But at 23, you are just on the verge of taking over to make this the world you want. Good luck to you.
So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?
