RE: Who are your favorite current Atheists?
Speaking as an atheist, I would most bummed if atheism is to lose myself. So I have to say I am my favorite atheist.

Jerry DeWitt and Dan Barker. Both were preachers and left the fold.
I spent the best part of my life believing in an imaginary system which could absolve me from imaginary sin and not only that, by believing in the imaginary deity and taking up the imaginary offer of an imaginary eternal life I was offered the chance to live in an imaginary world up in the sky when I died. And what did I have to do to have all of this? Simple, I gave up using my real brain in my real life in this real world. F*cked up or what?

The Four Horsemen, Richard Carrier, and Lawrence Krauss.
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

Ilike Peter Millican and Graham Oppy. Two philosophers not necessary big names. I listened to a Christian apologist podcast recently where Millican debate a Christian philosopher on two kinds of ontological arguments. http://www.premier.org.uk/radio/Shows/Sa...r-Millican

I really like Don Baker. His "failures of christianity" series is absolutely brilliant. I like the way he very calmly and politely beats the crap out of bullshit arguments.

I took favourite Atheist to mean visible/active as an atheist. Otherwise I wouldn't know where to start... My SO probably Tongue

Quote:I am a women and a rape victim and I strongly disagree. Thunderfoot is right.
Irrelevant, the fact you are a victim or a woman doesn't lend you any more credibility. I'm a bullying victim, that doesn't make my points about bullying valid (automatically)
Quote:2. Prevention is something women should be taught just the same.
You already are and it doesn't work sweetheart
Quote:Dressing provocatively where it is dangerous is stupid. Looking or acting like a victim is stupid. It's as stupid and flashing cash in a dark alley or leaving your doors unlocked. Getting mugged when flashing cash doesn't make theft right, but it does make the victim stupid.
This would be perfect if it wasn't for the fact that rape happens to... Just guess... Different kinds of bodies with different clothing, including burqas, niqabs and headscarves. I'm always amused by this analogy because while flashing cash is increasing the chances, it's at least something you can know and understand, while rape comes from someone you know and trust and therefore it's not preventable.
Quote:Yes, there are societies and parts of society (professional and college sports for example) where rape is winked at. That's wrong. But women should be taught about the dangers of bumping shoulders, let alone showing thighs and cleavage to such society.
That has no effect on rape. You have ugly and beautiful being raped, and even some older women as well. Clothing doesn't increase the chances - In fact, the only relevant data for being raped is meeting new men

Quote:And I've since gotten off at the wrong stop in the wrong dress. I will tell you that body language can be a life saver. Don't ever act like a victim. It's the ticket to being one.
Do you mean the body language you use against the men you know and trust minimally? I thought it was relaxed

Quote:The advice he gives in his video is good advice.
Not really. I talk not as a victim but as a criminal law student who has studied facts from various crimes, including rape (I did some papers)... Clothing and body language is almost irrelevant if not completely irrelevant. But you can always prove otherwise.

The case T makes of body language is against psychopathic violent rapists, but those are serial criminals and a minority compared to the rest of the population

http://atheistforums.org/thread-31467-pa...m+%2B+dust I've refuted the video here and included a rebutal video from the1janitor- Start reading my replies to Rob and you'll have the full answer.

Ok yes I am going to brag. I was lucky enough to go to the 07 convention in DC. Met Dawkins and Hitchens and Harris and Dennet very briefly. The only thing though, with every single one of them I embarrassed myself like a school girl throwing their panties at Elvis.

I didn't know who Ayaan was at the time so didn't talk to her. Dennet I really stuck my foot in my mouth, didn't know who he was either. Met him at a bus stop just outside the hotel leaving the convention, bragged about my autographs and he asked me if I wanted his and I responded "Why would I want your autograph?" only to look down to see "Keynote speaker" and his name. Looked him up on the computer later and thought "DOH!".
