Sarcasm aside, in religious countries, the Internet gives atheists who face persecution in real life a virtual community where they can find support. Courage can be hard to come by when you feel you're the only iconoclast in a world of conformists, but there is strength to found in learning that there are millions of others who share your views.

Honestly, I'd be happy if America moved from a majority of "if you're not some flavor of Christian, you're a bad person, and evolution is totally a lie!" to "hey, whatever, so long as you're not hurting or oppressing anyone.".
