So, I suppose the bald eagle, which seems to be somewhat associated with USA - with no protests from republicans - hunts by gently caressing its prey, feeding it grapes and gently rocking it to sleep, until it dies of old age? Damn, stupid people never seize to amaze me...

Wait, did Groen object because of how it kills it's prey? Does he not realize that the United States national emblem is a bald eagle? I'm not sure which was more ridiculous, that or the fact that he was trying to push his political agenda on a group kids with that Planned Parenthood remark.

Good. Involving kids in politics and giving them the hubris to think they can change a state bird is dumb and a total waste of time. Why the fuck should kids be proposing any sort of bill? I hate when people use kids in anything political. It's such bullshit. Also I don't see anything in there about the tea party. Why is it that if anybody farts in this country somebody will be there to blame it on the tea party.

Teaching is often best carried out in a hands-on manner, which is why chemistry classes have bunsen burners, English classes have pens and paper, and why kids should certainly play around with things like suggesting bills. Even the bill's failure will teach the kids something about the process.
I don't think this is about "using kids" to get something done, at all. I mean, it's not like which bird is the state bird will impart a business advantage to the rich folk who own the politicians, and you and I both know that that is the only legislation that matters.
No, no one was using the kids to push the agenda of red-tailed hawks on the unsuspecting polity. Folks were trying to teach the kids about the legislative process, and some dipshit unwittingly gave them a much more realistic lesson that had been envisioned: without a moneyed interest at stake, your law will go nowhere fast.
Good. Children should learn that.

First, it wasn't state bird. We already have one. It's the purple finch. It was for an as-yet unspecified state raptor.
Second, Groen's comment about Planned Parenthood was straight out of the Tea Party handbook, and since I live one town over I kinda know what his politics are all about. Dude is a Teaper through and through.
Third, this isn't "using kids in anything political" because naming a state raptor, of all things, shouldn't be considered partisan.
Ultimately, it was supposed to be a learning exercise that actually involved the kids in the political process. Given how few people vote, let alone are completely uninterested in politics at all, that's a worthwhile thing to strive for. And then a couple of humorless, and I can only assume dickless, politicians decided to grandstand for no real reason. I can sort of see Burt's issue with the appropriateness of it all, but there's already a precedent set for it, and the vote would take, what, a couple of minutes at most without the grandstanding? It's not like this would table some proposed legislation on anything actually important.
