Shia scholars over all believe the word in hadiths (ghina) doesn't refer to all Music but Music associated with corruption. Some Shia scholars believe all Music is forbidden but they are a minority.

Whether the sounds that our universe makes are actually music, that is to say, pleasing to the ear, is up for debate. But I think this is music in its own right. I like the 'music'/noise that Jupiter makes especially but all the planets make pleasing noises. All NASA has done is convert electromagnetic vibrations into sound Humans can hear using a computer. This sort of thing is not unique to Islam.  There are Christians sects that have banned dancing, and I recall a Christian telling me (circa 1980) that listening to the Beatles was sinful.

There are all kinds of things that some Christian sects have banned.  At least one banned all sexual intercourse (including among those who were married):  The Shakers:

All kinds of things have been banned by different sects.  The same sort of thing happens with Islam as in Christianity, where one group prohibits things that other groups are fine with.

So, the lesson one should take away is this:  One ought not judge all of Islam by the pronouncements of one particular sect, just as one ought not judge all of Christianity by the pronouncements of one particular sect.  It is the same sort of mistake in both cases.
