Killing in the name of atheism is a logical fallacy used by online atheists. I have never seen it used by any other group.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

Agreed, atheism or theism are not things you can kill "in the name of" in any way that makes sense. Unless you're insane perhaps.
It's what you build on it from there that matters. Pretending a book is written by God which has instructions for killing people in it is very irresponsible.

Since atheism does not have dogma or doctrine, there is nothing that can connect it to mass murder. You can't get from, "I disbelieve in gods, so I'll murder millions in my country".
Where as, all of the Abrahamic religions do have dogma and doctrine that, depending on interpretation, can lead to the murder of millions. A quarter of a million Muslims were killed in the Crusades based on doctrine. Can you imagine if the Christians had modern weapons?
The Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao regimes were not atheist regimes, they were totalitarian Communist regimes. That was their motivation for mass murder. They replaced an infallible god with an infallible 'State'.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Religion has been a driving force in most of humanities wars.
And even still people disagree but if you look at it religion plays a role in war.
And the fact that people fight over a tiny bit of land over there in the middle east.
It is fucking stupid its just land get the fuck over it.

In school, we were taught that it was always about money and power.

Simon I'm sorry but some of those States (if not all) actually declared themselves literally atheist states - Russia did it at least. That doesn't change anything, it just shows an hostility towards religious beliefs

I've never bought into this - Can you prove that religion is the driving force in most wars? Have you studied world history? have you witnessed wars yourself? How many religions are there and how many wars are driven fundamentally by religion?

The war on terror is based on a lot of things and I suspect money is very much involved.
ISIS - Yes because if the US hadn't fucked everything up we would have reached this point - Do you actually believe it is a coincidence that in some countries you can find more terrorist organizations than others, even Islamic ones?
Syria - The war in Syria is due to a lot of shit and you can't just bring religion into the mix and say it's the only factor, there's many things at play and lack of satisfaction with the system not to mention the arab spring didn't help one bit
Can you actually elaborate a little and instead explain what you consider a war caused by religion instead of being merely influenced by religion?

Religion can certainly be used as justification, if not motivation.
