Given earlier descriptions of angels, it's a wonder why anyone in Sodom would want to "know them" all that much. I'm trying to think about a humanoid with his face and feet covered, and his genitals dangling out in the open.

Perhaps having their genitals out in the open had something to do with it. Angelic penises must be heavenly.

Well, it's all very complicated to explain without decades of study and a lifetime of dedicated introspection, but it's all to do with deep symbolism and meaning on multiple planes that we can never understand. As ancient philosophers - whose names I won't even bother to mention because you'll only mock them - told us, it's all a metaphor for... something.
