Why are you equating 'socialistic societies' with 'less free countries'? Socialism does not - and never has - necessarily entailed a diminishment of personal freedom.

Boru

I thought capitalism is essentially defined as economic freedom.

I was interested to learn recently that electronics giant Huawei is socialist -- it is wholly owned by its employees. Its founder has only a 1.7% share.

This is one of the reasons the US has been working to block them through unfair trade practices -- for example imprisoning their CFO on bogus charges. It's because the US doesn't like it when the workers make the profits, rather than Wall Street investment types.

The other reason is that the US spy agencies want back door access to all electronic communications (as Edward Snowden revealed) and Huawei doesn't play along.

Were you also interested to learn that the Chinese National Intelligence Law requires Chinese citizen, companies and corporations to cooperate with and assist in intelligence gathering for the PRC, and to deny any such involvement?

I’m guessing you weren’t interested to learn it since you didn’t (if you had, you might not be so quick to use the term ‘bogus charges’).

Huawei claims to be owned by its employees, which is disputed.

Worker cooperatives are quite common all across Europe.
I havent seen the US actively working against any of them, yet. Ok, possibly because i am brainwashed by mainstream media, stuff like that.
Maybe thats the reason for trying to gather control over Europe? To eliminate all those cooperatives!?

Actually, the bogus charge had nothing to do with alledged participation in intelligence gathering.  In fact thorough analysis of Huaiwei’s ware by western industrial consultants have failed to reveal hidden intelligence gathering and backdoor access to what they sell.    The bogus charge leveled at the CFO alledged the CFO’s participation in Huaiwei, a Chinese company, operating in Iran, against US laws.

Being owned by employees is not socialist, eventhough it elicits knee jerk reaction from those who thinks society can only be grudgingly allowed to exist if it makes no imposition whatsoever on them while doing nothing but labor to enrich and aggrandize themselves.   To be socialist the rest of the society must be entitled to share in the profits of the company as if they were the owners.
