That seems harsh, but I get your metaphor. We have never found a perfect system, and probably never will, but capitalism has advantages that we need right now to develop and expand. Corporations are necessary evils, no doubt.

That is hilarious. I teach Krav Maga, and I had a student rescue a stranger one time while walking at night. My student- a 26 year old woman- was walking home from a night course at the college when she saw a woman being assaulted. She stepped in and put the guy down, and they ran. The lady was hysterical and very angry that her pepper spray hadn't worked. After examining it, my student found it was "homemade" pepper spray...literally a small squirt bottle filled with water, with pepper from the shaker poured in.

Having spent more time than I ever wanted to in their company, I have my doubts about peace. This is a religion that has been warlike and intolerant for millennia, and I have seen no sign of change. Certainly there are muslims who aren't "out to get us", as it were, but...the trouble they are causing in Europe, and here in the US, as well as their blanket refusal to assimilate...I hope you are correct but I sincerely doubt it. Seek peace, and prepare for war.

In the early naughties decided to buy a Fender Champ amp and came away instead with a Japanese 62 reissue Fender Strat and a really old hand wired amp that only had a single volume control but was probably a precursor to a Vox AC30 (although not a Vox). I then met my husband who also had two 62 reissue Japanese Strats. Between us we have three pink strats. I enjoyed home recording and would love to do that again.

I gave up playing the guitar many years ago. I moved on with my life and playing the guitar is kind of tinged with sadness for me because of what I was going through when I used to play extensively. I sometimes pick up my acoustic when I go back to Germany on holiday though. Back in the early 90's I started to listening to classical music instead of heavy rock, particularly Russian classical. But I actually like playing very natural celtic folk instruments which you can jam around a camp fire, so an Irish flute, mandolin, violin etc. Something you can still play after civilisation has ended. I'm considering starting some percussion lessons sometime I suppose. I enjoy hitting things.

In my 35+ years of playing, I've gone through periods totalling about fourteen years when I played only acoustic guitar. As much as I love heavy rock, the purity and simplicity of just hitting the goddamned note right and hearing it ring true is really satisfying to me. And that I can carry it anywhere is very important to me.

I always have said that my guitar is my lover, my friend, and my therapist. For me, my guitar is my Little Wing.

And it was a bit of a slap in the face for me to realise that I had done that. I was just tired of reading about yet another southern state American politician spewing bigotry and hatred that it had completely narrowed my focus when writing.

It's fallacious thinking that I have to guard against myself. No one is immune to sloppy thinking.

Quote:Yeah, I lived in SoCal when hair metal exploded. I was and am a huge Rush fan, and the metal that I like was more Maiden and Sabbath than the peroxide crap, so getting into bands was sometimes pretty tough.

Quote:Always up for a jam ... bought an Epiphone Valve Jr yesterday used at GC yesterday, first amp I've owned in years. Just to tide me over until I pick up an Egnater.

I hear that...I'm straight up NWOBHM, I got my start with Sabbath and Purple and Zep, and quickly found a home with Priest and Maiden and Saxxon, etc. I didn't hate the hair metal bands that actually had talent, but I despised the pure commercial crap, and although I had long hair, I never wanted to borrow my girlfriend's makeup or clothes...

I got to meet a lot of my rock icons, flying for a living. I made friends with Ted Nugent, which will piss EVERYONE on this board off, I think, lol. I visit him up at his ranch ( not far from you) several times a year. I was Jimmy Buffet's pilot for a few years, while he was opening up the first Margaritavilles. We bounced around the Carib, having fun. He's a great guy, and he and Sammy Hagar are close, so I got to know Sammy pretty well. I got to attend one of his birthday parties in Cabo. Wild.

One of the guys who works for me in my hotrod shop is Canadian, and thinks Rush created the universe. I like 'em but prefer the chuggier metal sound and Halfordish vocals. I do like Blackie Lawless and Biff Byford, vocalists with wide ranges but who hang out in the lower registers a bit more than Geddy does. He kinda reminds me of Willie Nelson sometimes. I always wanted to hear him sing "Pancho and Lefty". "Livin' on the road my friends..."

I have 63 guitars. I know. It just happened. My man cave is full of amps, from half stacks to 5 watt pignose amps, line 6, Peavey, Marshall, Crate, Behringer, I can't even remember them all. I never sell anything. I have my very first guitar and every one since. (1977-now) I have a huge gun collection, I collect cars, I don't know what the hell is wrong with me. My wife has some thoughts...

I dig the epi valves, solid amps. For a portable combo amp with some chops I've gotten into the Peavey Vypyr series..excellent amps. I'm not a huge fan of Peavey in general, but a few of their lines are awesome. Only downside is the pedal is stupidly expensive for the vypyr.

I don't think the stereotypes about Texans are based on political leanings, myself. I think that out in California, the stereotype of Texans (held by folks across the political spectrum) is based more on the superiority complex many of them seem to have.

I wouldn't have such a complex if they would just respect my greatness. Bastards.

In our house in Germany I put a Naga Jolokia pepper in a bottle of Vodka and it's been in so long now the pepper has turned from red to white. I know it'll work because just a sip of it makes my mouth explode the moment I swallow. It's like having a time bomb in your mouth. If I took it back to the UK and put it in a spray then it would be an offensive weapon. I was a keen grower of superhot chillies in Germany, way hotter than the Naga Jolokia so I could brew up something far more potent if I wanted. I actually made it to bring to parties.

I've always wanted to learn Krav Maga. I also learnt Jeet Kune Do, Kali and Wing Tsun. Kali was particularly fun. Because I've had to move around a lot I just learn what's available.

Found a picture of the all-valve amp I found in a music shop which gave me the perfect tone I had been looking for for years. I paired it with a Fender 62 reissue Jap strat with SRV hot rail pick ups. It's completely hand wired with very few controls and has a Celestion speaker. Not a circuit board in sight. It's got such a lovely warm sound.

My own is red unlike the one pictured. I got in touch with the son of the owner who made it.

Wow...there is a story there. Loss and societal collapse, yet the band plays on.

I'm with thump...the guitar can be your therapist, your other woman, (or man, if you prefer) your escape hatch. You should try to regain that. The guitar is innocent of blame, or at least, I would assume so. If I'm wrong, there is DEFINITELY a story there. Smile

I'm a fan of Jethro Tull, so I can see the attraction to flutes...you scan shred on a flute, hehe...

I need that Vodka. Or rather, I have a friend who doesn't realize it but he needs that vodka.  Diablo

I started with taekwondo, when I was young. It was ok, but I grew up in Texas ranch country, where kids fist fight just for the hell of it, and I never found it to be any use...we ended up in the same style fight we'd had since 3rd grade, it was just not a brawler art.
Later I was introduced to Krav in the police academy, and really liked it. I ended up finding a private instructor (they use the terms dojo and sensei, but they just feel wrong to me for an israeli style) I eventually earned my 8th dan black belt. Much later I ended up teaching officer defense tactics at the same police academy, which is just straight up Krav. It's by far the most useful form I have ever experienced.

Quote:Texas cemetery finally agrees to stop segregating the dead

Quote:According to the court documents, the cemetery board said it denied her request because “he’s a Mexican” and told the widow to bury him “up the road” at the other cemetery “with the Mexicans.”

just a note here:

we have segregated cemeteries here; but catholic/protestant, not black/white, and some cemeteries are protestant or catholic only.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
