Qatar World Cup: over 900 workers died already, could be as high as 4000 by kick off
#21
FIFA
So, soccer fans - and I know you are out there - is anyone surprised by this?

http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/27/opinions/b...dictments/

Quote:In its 47-count indictment, issued in Brooklyn, the U.S. Department of Justice charged that some 14 people, many with official roles in FIFA, took part in a 24-year corruption scheme to fill their wallets at the expense of the sport. They allegedly awarded marketing and broadcasting agreements -- as well host bids, especially for 2018 and 2022 -- in exchange for under-the-table payments.

Putin is having a hissy fit already.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Just some basics. I admit, even I was a little confused.

UEFA is throwing its weight behind the Prince, apparently, but that may not inspire others to follow suit.

Perhaps time to trot out John Oliver's segment on FIFA from last year.  Note how he accurately predicted what we now know.

Ofcourse he is. It doesn't exactly reflect well on them. Everyone around the world knew their bid was corrupt. Same with Qatar. Even probably Brazil. South Africa's certainly was.

With respect to John Oliver he isn't saying anything that's a revelation. Anybody who pays attention knew already. It's been corrupt for years and years, everyone knew world cup bids went to whoever bribed the most. Only thing now is that the FBI have gotten involved and actually made arrests.

Sepp Blatter is like a mafia don. Everyone else will take the fall but him, and he's exactly like Robert Mugabe in that he rigs elections and won't step down till the day he dies.

FIFA is a criminal organisation. It's more powerful than entire countries. Some people might think this bizarre, it only being a sporting organisation after all, but the power they wield is frightening and real.

I'm glad they're getting fucked in the arse now though, bout damn time. The only thing that sickens me is that Sepp Blatter isn't in a prison cell already.

So the only FA's that will vote against Blatter in the election will be European, meaning Blatter continues as president

What if European nations pull out of the World Cup? FIFA have a lot more to lose from Euro nations not being in the WC than vice-versa, a Europe-less world cup might as well just be one match between Argentina and Brazil
“The larger the group, the more toxic, the more of your beauty as an individual you have to surrender for the sake of group thought. And when you suspend your individual beauty you also give up a lot of your humanity. You will do things in the name of a group that you would never do on your own. Injuring, hurting, killing, drinking are all part of it, because you've lost your identity, because you now owe your allegiance to this thing that's bigger than you are and that controls you.”  - George Carlin

Well 45 out of 60 something (rough estimate, only going from what I vaguely remember from the news) votes will go for this "Prince Ali" instead of Blatter so people don't reckon he will get in again. Even Platini told Blatter that he should step down and he's Blatter's biggest bum boy.

Still, we already know it's corrupt as fuck so it still wouldn't surprise anyone if he did.

And the likelihood of European nations boycotting is quite minimal. What would be better however is if the sponsors pulled out, and many of them are expressing that they may do just that. I don't know though, it still doesn't feel like shit has hit the tipping point of where these things could happen. 2022 is a long way off and it's quite possible even after all this fiasco future world cups will go ahead as per usual. Even the Russian world cup is highly likely to go ahead even if solid evidence is found there's corruption involved with the bid for it, which by the looks of things there is.

Wonder how much Putin has riding on his bribe offer?

LOL, if everyone is bribing the officials, maybe the damn thing is actually awarded on MERIT ?????
