Numismatic Evidence for the Bible
April 13, 2010 at 11:00 am
I have seen with my own eyes coins issued by Herod the Great and Pontius pilate. You can also find them on the Internet. How can atheists deny that those persons existed when we have this evidence?

Even IF you could prove that every person and or place in the Bible was real...That would not prove even 1 miracle.... That would be like saying there is a New York city so I belive that Spider Man is real.

Herod the Great and Pontius Pilate are well attested in the historical record of the time. No one questions the existence of either and we have Philo and Josephus who made written reference to both. What the fuck does that have to do with anything?
But, if you are trying to say that because Herod and Pilate are "real" that automatically means that your godboy also existed you are out of your fundie mind. Let me try and put this into some sort of context for you before you make more of a fool of yourself.
Gone With The Wind is a novel. It is fiction. Yes, there was an American Civil War, the city of Atlanta was burned, there were blockade runners and Robert E. Lee commanded the Confederate Army but these handful of facts DO NOT make Gone With The Wind into a true story. Likewise, some shithead writing a story about your carpenter coming back to life does not make it true because Herod, Pilate, or anyone else a real person.
You really need to learn what "fiction" entails.

I really don't think anyone denies the existence of those two...
The Romans did an excellent job of documenting history as it happened... many nobels electing to hire their own personal historians to follow them around, and document their exploits...
However, the problem lies in the fact that even though all this 'documenting' was going on...
No one wrote anything about a 'jesus' figure...
(yah yah, go ahead and spew out the forged paragraphs of Josephus)

I read this somewhere (Dawkins, perhaps): I have an invisible monkey on my shoulder. This monkey controls the weather. You know that the monkey exists, because it rains sometimes. (or something along those lines)
Both monkeys and rain are indisputably real, therefore, so is my invisible weather controlling monkey. How can you say otherwise?
