What would you consider to be evidence for God?
RE: What would you consider to be evidence for God?
What is possible is very important, for sure!

This is a big speed bump that we never get over. The theist rattles off all these uber attributes that their divine buddy has, and then I ask them how they know it's possible such a thing could exist. I've never had a satisfactory answer. "Otherwise things are unacceptable" or "Otherwise I have no explanation for everything" seem to be about it. So what they are really describing is a refusal to accept reality on its own terms and/or a refusal to accept that there are big questions we don't know the answers to.

If I were to witness something truly impossible happen with my own to eyes, I would be likely to consider there could be a force or forces operating outside  the laws of physics, nature, etc.

I have seen a magician "saw a lady in half."  Yet I have not even the slightest temptation to believe that a miracle occurred.

My question for you is this:  How are you going to know that the "miracle" you witness isn't just a trick, a con job, to sucker you into believing some drivel?

Also, given the history of people "lying for a worthy cause," there are countless Christians who would be ready to do such a thing, if they were skilled enough to do it.

That's why I said it would take a big fuggin' miracle to convince me. Something indisputable. We are talking hypotheticals here. Smile

The question is, how could it possibly be indisputable?  The essence of a trick is that it looks real.  If it does not look real, it is not really tricking anyone.

Here is something that is on a grand scale:

Of course, it was an act.  But the point is, that tricks can be very, very impressive, and they can involve very large objects.  But the trick looks the same as a miracle.

If the messiah had risen from the dead and showed ALL people in the area that he overcame death and he was truly divine then there would be no other religion today.

If it happened again and a man/woman claimed divinity and proved it on international TV in front of everyone then BAM! there ya go.

We mere humans can put information all over the world in seconds. I'm sure a divinity could do the same.

But so far this god is leaving it up to a human to convince me. That is a god fail.

Nah. A large scale parlor trick wouldn't do it, either. I don't what it would be, but it wouldn't be some Copperfield or Chris Angel junk. I'm thinking more along the lines of someone that I knew for a fact was long dead, being resurrected. Or seeing someone regrow a missing limb, in front of me. Or being on the beach just as a tsunami is about engulf me and everyone in it's path, when suddenly the massive wave STOPS,  suspended in time.

At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'
