As you may remember these all sprang from One monk wanting to guide the catholic church away from greed and falsehood according to what he believed the bible to teach. As i recall the church was bilking europe for every last copper in the form of....paying in coin for ones sins durring confesion. It took hold because many of the ruling aristocracy recognized this and used him to oust catholic rule.
Okay so now today there are lots of interpretations of the bible in the form of denominations all claiming to be the right ones. I had thought that the one saving grace of the catholic church was that there were no permenent splits in ideology because all catholics went with what ever the pope at the time said. Is this not the case?
There have been episodes in history where the Pope has needed to be corrected by other Catholics such as St Catherine of Siena. The Pope may be infallible when he is teaching something to all the Catholic faithful as a whole but his own personal opinions can be heresy.
It has been some considerable time since the Pope last used his teaching authority in an infallible manner, and unless he does Catholics have no reason to obey, and must activley resist when he teaches open heresy as the post-conciliar church often does.
We are the one holy apostolic Catholic Church and we have no splits in our upholding of the truth, sadly many of those who claim to be "catholic" have become worldly and no longer uphold the teachings and commands of Christ.
