He's been trying to argue for panspermia since the stone age, and this fits all too neatly into his pet theory.

Ok I'll try to avoid it, let me just quickly point out that the panspermia hypothesis begs for a more in depth analysis and some hard facts before it can gain enough thrust to penetrate into the mainstream, at which point the scientific community will get behind it soon enough.

I really don't know how far fetched it is honestly. For one thing though, having something alive on the firsf deep space rock we care to look at is a different thing again than just having had panspermia 4 billion years ago...
I just grow suspicious when someone who is famous for advertising it more than others cries "aliens!" every time at the first sight of an anomaly.

Don't get me wrong, I so want there to be space bugs on there!
