Hello all,
Last night I went to a Christian bible study. I AM CONVERTED. Just kidding of course, it actually only served to reinforce my feeling Christians are a bit silly. However, it was a lot of fun and I'm definitely going back next week, as it was certainly a learning experience. I didn't really push too hard on any one subject, because the attendees are good friends of mine, but two questions I really tried to get an answer for. First was the old "are the unconverted who've never heard of Jesus (for example, North American Natives, circa 1000 BC) going to hell" question. Surprisingly, the leader of the group wriggled a bit but eventually plainly said, according to the bible, yes. This was of course with the caveat that God will be the final judge. The second issue I brought up was the one of womens' rights. If, I asked, the bible is the inspired word of god then why were women treated like chattel in biblical times? The stock answer was of course brought up, "Well you have to remember the times they were in." I never really realized just how much of a cop out that was. Anyway, it was fun times. Thoughts?
