RE: To theists
Damn it, CL. I told you babies were for Friday (think pre-Vatican II and fish).

We do.

Whom have we shot for dissension?

So you're supporting a charge of abuse of Staff power by pointing out where a member of Staff wasn't doing that?

I agree about doing it in a hateful manner, another allegation you need to support, however the rest is sort of the whole point of a discussion forum as opposed to, say, a mutual masturbation party.

These two sentences flat-out contradict one another.

Sorry but that's not a call you get to make unless and until you are in possession of the full facts of each case.

Then attest to it. Afterwards you can explain why you haven't been bullied into leaving.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

I know it is. That's precisely why it's irresponsible. I expect that of the likes of you, not from them.

Well maybe you need to be more explicit in your expectations so that we can all get about the business of meeting them.  That's certainly why I'm here.  [/S-A-R-C-A-S-M]  <- I thought it might help if I spoke louder and more slowly.

You are a valued member of our little community and as such entitled to provide constructive criticism. Just don't go overboard, is all we're asking.

Phew! I was worried there would be another world war. Now can we get back to the topic at hand? Should babies be roasted, pickled, or fried? Or is this a different topic?

PS: I love your excitement penguin, I am looking forward to seeing you in action in the next mafia, hope you'll make it Heart

RE: To theists
I'm looking at the results of the poll.

I myself assumed that most theists who come here do so with the intent of trying to convert. I'm surprised that I was wrong and that only 1 out of 3 theists who come here do this, and that the majority really just come here for discussion and that's it.

I think the results of this thread are definitely something to keep in mind when a new theist shows up on the forums. Take it a little easier on us and don't assume we're all trying to convert people all the time. Smile
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

That 1:3 is for the current population only, during the little time I was here, there were many here who just wanted to discuss their views and understand ours. Those that came to convert people were mostly shoot and run posters.

But I think the poll should have a "simply confused" option as well, because some people like professor and mk seem like they came here just because they confused this place to be something else and then decided to stay. I love their weird posts and ideas though!! Tongue

The thing is, actions speak louder than words. A lot of theists type at us from the very start with strawmen, proselytzing, and throwing [insert holy book here] verses at us; things we perceive partly as attempts to convert, but mostly it's just very rude. New theist members also tend to be the most chronic rulebreakers.

I'll admit, we as a community can be a bit harder on new theist members because of our history with the above, but people like you have had it much easier here because you didn't do those things. Put more simply: you show respect for the forum, so I know I can speak for at least some of us when I say that's why we respect you back.
