Since I don't see the 'New Testament' as either scripture or reportage, 'any of it' sort of covers it.

Of course, there are parts of the work that have a relationship to historical events/persons but the fact that there's a Kings Cross Station doesn't mean there's a wizard called Harry Potter either.

The fool says in his heart: "There is no Harry Potter."  They are corrupt, and their ways are muggle.

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

RE: To theists
Welcome to Sam S and Kaninchen Smile

It seems you are both much more able to discuss religion without getting defensive and preaching at us. We need more people like you!

Please be aware that when I say I think religion is stupid for reason X, I don't mean to call the religious stupid. I'm addressing the beliefs, not the believers.

Being able to separate yourself from your beliefs and not take it personally is a skill sadly lacking in the theists we get here.

People can try and convince me all they want. If I'm wrong about something, I'm happy to be corrected. But of course I'm not going to change my mind unless I'm given good enough reason to do so; nor would I expect theists to become atheist because I say so.
Feel free to send me a private message.

I always liked the Jewish policy of exclusion.  The un-evangelical religion.

Ahhh.... Kaninchen.

I'm glad you decided to join. Some of your responses to our friend on the other forum have made me laugh.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

RE: To theists
At first I came simply to learn by means of debate. I think I've learned all I can here. I left for while after a period of scupulousity against believers by the mods when Frodo and Drich had been banned and a couple of new members driven away after being scolded by mods.

I was contacted by another believer who convinced me to return. I know that no one will be brought to the Lord except by the work of the Holy Spirit. As I see it, I have been called as a witness (Romans 1:18-20) so that no one can stand before the White Throne (Rev 20:11) and say that they had not heard the Word or have its truth presented to then.

^^

*sigh*

To re-cap, Fr0d0 was banned after repeatedly breaking the rules having been told to *repeatedly* stop. There was no vendetta against him, and indeed the decision to ban him was one of the longest debated in AF's history in the staff discussion. If you think it went "lol, theist bein' haters - BAN FTW" then you're sorely mistaken.

Drich was temp banned, and is now here with a fresh slate. I can post several links where he's posted in the past week if you'd like. So you're wrong on that account too.

My patience wears thin when I see you chirping into threads to have a dig then disappearing back into the ether. If your sole purpose is just to play the victim (note to everyone, members and lurkers, Chad is not banned. If we have a vendetta against theists we'd ban them all, but we don't, because we don't) then please do it somewhere else. If you believe you've out grown the forum, again, by all means, go. Nobody is holding you here, and nobody is forcing you to post. Yet you do. Why? What's the problem? Feel like you need to have that dig over and over again?

Grow up.

Scrupulousity, wooters: "a psychological disorder characterized by pathological guilt about moral or religious issues". Besides being a charge I would thoroughly enjoy seeing you prove, one cannot apply a disorder about internal guilt feelings against another group.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Wow, shocker: Wooters has decided he gets to dictate the positions of people he's never met. And how convenient, the positions he ascribes happen to be ones in which he's absolutely right about everything, everyone knows it, and we're all just against him.

Chad, if you want to go play in fantasy world, kindly do it elsewhere. We're here for an actual conversation.

RE: To theists
I think, Pandæmonium, your third and fourth paragraphs kind of prove his point. Informing a user about something is fine. Condemning him thereafter, from a position of power, that is, is not.

Even I can see how he's being obnoxious, what with the bible references and all, but that's no excuse for mistreating a user.

Esquilax, I charge you with the same.

This looks like opression. I can't stand silently by it, no matter where I'm witnessing it.

Oh well, what do I know about fairness?

But that's just my two cents.Hope I didn't make yet another couple of enemies.

RE: To theists
I am glad this question was asked.

I voted no. If anyone was converted because of me, of course I'd be glad, but I don't think that's possible to do via internet forums anyway, and so it is not why I'm here.

Here's some info on my life so that ya'll can fully understand why I'm here.

My husband is a pilot of the Air Force. Due to the demands of the Air Force, we currently live in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere in Texas. Three hours away from the next big city. My husband works 13-15 hours a day, 5 days a week.... and sometimes travels all weekend for cross country flights.

The fact that I am not much of a career woman, along with how hard it is to get a decent job in a town this size, is the reason why I am a stay at home wife. We also don't have any kids yet. I hang out with my girlfriends once or twice a week, but I honestly enjoy the quiet life. That's not to say I get bored, though lol.

Generally speaking, I like having discussions with people about things that matter. I can't stand small talk. And on top of that, I like having these discussions with people who have very different views from myself. If I wanted to have deep discussions with people who share my views I would have joined a Christian forum. I used to be part of a Catholic forum and didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I am enjoying this. I also joined a Mormon forum a few months ago... thinking perhaps they would be different enough. But they weren't. I got really bored really quick over there and haven't been back since. I think it's more fun, more interesting, and I feel like I can always learn from people who are so different from myself.

I've met some great people here in the 3 weeks that I have been a member, and have connected with multiple people from here on facebook. I'm glad I made the decision to join, and glad I made the decision to stick around even though I'll admit it was a little rough in the beginning while I tried to gain everyone's respect.

Thank you all for taking me in and making me a part of your community despite our differences. I appreciate all of you. Smile
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
