Jehovah’s seem to be trying to get my 85 year old father into their cult

Taking pleasure away from the elderly in an attempt to help, do good or protect them happens all to frequently.  Don't go behind his back, think of how you would feel if your child did that to you.

Thank you!
I really don't like sharing such personal information in a public forum. That isn't MY personal information to share that is.   But I'm anonymous & so is my dad.  And it's been a big help.  Plus while this story hopfully  won't end unhappily.  I think stories like these need to be made available to others.

My dad seemed to like the links I sent him and said not to worry.  So apparently he senses my concern.

I doubt I'll stop worrying until they go away for good.   Knowing what their intent is.  I don't know weather I could say in good faith it's ok for it to continue.  But ultimatelly it's my dad's choice.

I suggested he tell them his being a physician, their sanctioning letting people die from neglect.  Is a deal breaker for him.  And see if they keep coming back around after he says that.  If that's not enough hit them with the info in the links with all the contradictions,  failed predictions.  Utter hypocrisy expecting literal interpretation of their teachings when they have all the documented failed predictions and inconsistencies.  All the other bizarrely unreasonable requirements of followers.

He was a man who could fix anything mechanical yet we knew it was time to put him in Assisted Living when we came home to find him on the front porch.  He told us he was locked out.  He had his keys in his pocket.  He could not remember how to open a lock.  It was Arizona and it was winter so not so bad but had he done that to himself in summer out here it could have been very serious.

I'd like to tell you there is hope but it does not get better.  My brother and I joke that we'll be sitting in a corner drooling into a cup and everyone else will be trying to figure out what the hell to do with us.

Yeah, I would like to think differently but it does seem likely he's showing significant signs.   I need to read up on this also cause as you say it's not going to get better.  Funny thing his memory is pretty decent still. He does forget some things sometimes but not bad. What's telling is the difference in way's he communicates about things he learned 60 years ago and how easily he can still explain it. As opposed to simple conversations about current shit today which can get really confusing for both of us.  He's always said he didn't want to go this way. Problem is the alternative isn't all that great either.  And apparently your the last person to notice it happening to you. So when it's time to consider doing something about it.  You no longer have the wherewithal to carry through with it.

Regarding his mental status. I'd suggest taking him to a gerontologist. They can perform a mental status exam, a brain scan,. blood work, ................ Do you think he would go? I know some MD's (or any older person) get a little touchy when their abilities are challenged. My friends dad became very depressed when he could no longer perform surgery because of decreasing eye site and loss of fine motor skills.

Wish you the best of luck.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

He probably wouldn’t go for that.  He’s always had the philosophy in medicine less is better.  I am sure he would apply that here. He does medicate with an alcohol ritual. Double manhattan before dinner and a double bourbon & 7 at night before bed. It seems to work for him. At this point I don't  know weather you could argue it's doing him any harm.
