I give a lot of latitude to children; however, I have zero tolerance for irresponsible parents. Part of a parent's responsibility is to ensure their spawn don't inconvenience the rest of society. When I was a child my mother would frequently get compliments at restaurants for our behavior, which always seemed odd since we considered our behavior normal and not worthy of praise.
When I was five and my brother a year younger, we thought it was a grand idea to start throwing french fries at one another. Without saying a word, Mom collected our meals and put them in the trash. We were then forced to watch her eat. She says she never again had to say a single word to us about our behavior at restaurants.

All comes down to respect, or the lack there of. The parents had no respect for the other patrons.

I remember when I was working in retail the other year, this family came into the store with their baby. It was crying when they came through the door, it was crying all the way around the store as they were getting their clothes, it was crying all 30 minutes they were in the queue. The store was small, and absolutely packed that day, and everyone was done listening to this baby by the time they left.
If that was in a store and we were pissed off, I definitely think restaurant owners should have the right to bar entry to families with young children. It's not nice for the other clientele who are out to enjoy a meal on an occasion.
I think it was the wrong way for that woman in the video to deal with it sure, but she wasn't wrong in wanting them to leave.

Kind of the same with me. Though I always have the feeling of something being wrong with me for not finding children cute. It should be in our instincts after all. Anyway, glad that I'm not the only one, although I still feel kind of handicapped for not liking them very much up, close and personal.
Yeah I've often felt the same. Not sure what it is, maybe something isn't wired properly for us but damn there's just nothing cute or 'lovely' about them. They all look the same, and I immediately get annoyed by them

I can't stand kids. They're like retarded little aliens.

I find little kids can be entertaining, and very cute. I've never been somewhere that a kid was being really annoying, since usually the parent will take them outside if they keep it up for long.
Like another poster says, it really depends on the place. If you see a playground at the back of the fast food joint, you have been warned. If it's a place where you're expected to dress up and have a reservation, I wouldn't bring anyone under seven or eight. Maybe into their teens. If the chances are good that the tip will be ten dollars or so, then there should be a level of expectation going in.

Starting at about four or five, I made it a habit to take my son to sit-down restaurants, to train him how to behave in that sort of setting, and never had a problem with his public behavior. I learnt from my own dad The Look -- narrowed eyes, tight lips, like I'm taking aim. If my son started acting up, he'd get The Look, and he knew that that meant he'd better straighten up and fly right or once we got home he was going to be in deep kimche. But I never had to use that often.

This post is so full of goodness it's hard to know where to start ... but what a great mom.

Personally I'm fine with kids in restaurants at any age, provided they are kept under control.
