To top it off, they might not have been planning to touch her anyway. It's not safe to come into physical contact with a drowning person, and they're likely to just throw a buoy out. I'm thinking foul play too. No responsible parent does something this stupid.

Well Hindus and Sikhs also care about "honour", although maybe not to such an extent, as it's part the culture there. However, I am sure a Hindu or a Sikh would not have a problem with this situation and would let the daughter live because they don't try to sexually repress people as much as Muhammadans do. Imagine if the daughter didn't die after all and she saw her father trying to kill her? If it was his son I bet he would have let him live.

Interesting that the headline isn't "uncovered women allowed to swim in a middle east beach".

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

You can be sure that he is still absolutely convinced he did the right thing.
See, I'm having a hard time believing he was able to override his instinct in the moment. I suspect some amount of foul play or a history of a troubled relationship.
That doesn't explain the parents who kneel down on opposite sides of their dying child's bed to pray instead of calling (or taking the kid to) qualified medical help. Fuckwits kill their kids with stupidity every day. "Some amount of foul play or a history of a troubled relationship" could have been a part of it this time, but not necessarily.

There are plenty of irresponsible parents out there.

So he's either stupid, or evil.

Of course I don't have all the facts, but assuming the details I do have are true, I have enough to call him a sick murderer of his own child. I notice it doesn't specifically talk about religion. But any "beliefs" which would result in you effectively killing your own child over a petty matter are rotten to the core.

Indeed, those things aren't mutually exclusive.
