STUDY: Want ‘sustained happiness’? Get religion.

RE: STUDY: Want ‘sustained happiness’? Get religion.
If believing a beautiful lie makes some people happy, more power to them. I personally do not wish to reject reality and truth in order to feel good.

I'm sure that the amount of happiness religion brings is directly proportional to which religion is dominant in the area. Abrahamic religions tend to demonize and ostracize those who are different, so a christian is likely to be happier in USA than they are in Saudi Arabia.

It's less about religion, and more about being a part of the community who may be mostly religious. If religion makes you happy, though, go ahead. Just don't come after me for disagreeing.

You realize belief isn't a choice, right?

Are you advocating pretending to believe in order to join a religion and then gain this alleged bonus?

I could be happier if I went on drugs and booze. But it's irresponsible and selfish of me to do so, and I'd rather have my wits about me as much as possible. People depend on me.

People, read the quotes from the study I posted. There's no use in speculating about a non existent result. They are speaking about a possibility. It may be so. And you know what that means when scientists say may. They have no evidence for one or the other, only hints.

I saw a study that apologists rectally extract their own ideas. Skeptical as I am, that might be true.

Does Jesus really want liars in his church? Wouldn't he rather I didn't turn up at all and disrespect the people there with my false presence?

And like Vic said, whether or not this study is true, it's irrelevant to the truth of religious claims. To some people, truth is important and an actual part of happiness.

Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll! The more one gets, the happier one will be!
Most definitely not your god thing.

I am willing to give up your notion of happiness, since the condition for it is a lobotomy.

Tell me, are you a reflexion of your god?

Man, I'd be happy too if I could simply push away the bulk of life's consequences because some sky daddy promised me that I'd get an eternity of paradise after I died.

Hey you blasphemer!  Dionysus, the god of divine intoxication, is ready to welcome you with open arms, if only you will take the first steps and open that bottle and drink!

Here is his picture on an inexpensive option that is a good value (at least as typically priced in the U.S.):

Besides, you can be responsible and drink.  You just have to manage when and where and how much you drink.  It is a little less fun that way, but it also has the advantage of minimizing hangovers.

Cheers!
