What's it Like for Gays and Atheists in the UK?

People find any reason to bash on the U.S. on these forums. States in the US legalized gay marriage long before the UK did.

I did not mean for this to be a US vs. UK thread. I'm thinking globally because gays and atheists exist everywhere. It's a global thang.

My apologies then. It just seemed oddly specific. Why the U.K. specifically?

Because I know people here who are in the UK. The place itself does not interest me as much as the fact that they are there. I'd also be interested in knowing about Australia, since I know someeone who lives there, too.

We’re over here talking about this woman down in Kentucky who doesn’t want to grant marriage licenses to gays and I thought I’d see more of you, but I guess maybe some of you don’t think what goes on in the US has very little to do with you.

That made me wonder, what’s it like for gays and atheist across the pond. Here in the land of the fucking free people have to shed so much blood, sweat and tears just to earn the right to be treated like human beings.

I’m not surprised that it’s the Church at the forefront of the fight against human rights, after all, these same motherfuckers were heartbroken when forced to let my mother ride the front of the bus.  

Are people free anywhere on this planet? Are Christians fighting everywhere to return to the days when they could burn people at the stake?

Mostly it's pretty much a non-issue.  You do get the occasional arsehole and groups of arseholes who get all uppity, but they tend to not have media support like they do in the US. Their arseholeness is widely accepted.

I've got limited UK religion education/experience. Most of my perceptions come from the Vicar of Dibley. HAH! Wish we had that outlook in the US.

Soooo........... what are your views/opinions on the religious disputes in Northern Ireland? Most of what I've seen/heard may have been tainted by the US media.

Well NI is very complicated, far too complicated to go into in a short post.

A lot of Yanks exacerbated the problem by donating to the IRA thinking they were jolly Irishmen with green hats and pots of golds, though.
