Those Satanists did not invent the symbol of the Demon, the bible did. They took something that was made up to represent evil, and are trying to make it their own. Which is fine, I guess, but by putting it next to the 10 commandments statue, they are deliberately and knowingly trying to "defile" something that is very sacred for the majority of people in this country. Why not just choose a different spot to put their statue in? Its own spot?

Did we get to this yet - the Christians and Jews borrowed the shit from other ancient gods. Who the fuck cares if the satanists borrow from them?

I certainly don't. That wasn't my point.

Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

I don't think that's what the intention is.

Oh yes it often is.  The people who are most amendment about having such symbols up, proclaim this to be a Christian nation.  It is not.  It is a secular nation.

That works both ways, actually. The ten commandments hate on Satan and Satan hates on the ten commandments. Yes, it is a provocation, but provocation is the intent.

I'm going to need you to be more specific about your point then, because guaranteed, a portion of someone's religion is going to offend someone else, and it really doesn't matter if another person altogether takes it and runs with it.

If the Hebraic god was worth a fuck, none of his followers would need to cry about it.

This is true. In which case I wouldn't be for putting a Christian symbol right next to a Satanic one if the Satanic one was there first.

Also, the concept of the devil is also borrowed. So again...who cares?

I have to live next to conservatives. We're not allowed to post signs about it. But if the conservatives are allowed to post about their beliefs, we liberals would be allowed to as well. Do you think someone isn't going to feel directly offended because of opposite view points in that situation? It's the same thing, essentially, just missing people believing in a divine component that is somehow supposed to invest them with "being more right."

C_L, can you articulate why the positioning actually matters? You keep saying that the proximity of the demon next to the commandments would be interpreted as a message of hate from the satanists (or atheists) to Judeo-Christians, but wouldn't the opposite hold true as well? That the proximity of the commandments next to the demon is a message of hate aimed at the satanists?

Because, right now, you're clearly looking at it through the lens of your own bias, and you haven't shown a willingness to look at it a different way.

Regarding the comparisons with Nazis... really? If anyone thinks that a symbol of a mythological creature that has done nothing that can be verified to humanity is as bad/offensive as the co-opted symbol of those who actually engaged in genocide, they need to get their priorities in order.

Conservatives and liberals do have different views, but one isn't a symbol of hate and evil towards the other. That's where it's different.

I actually addressed this, probably while you were typing your post lol:

I was showing how a symbol can be hateful when it is deliberately put right next to another symbol, in a way that it wouldn't be if it were just standing on its own.
