National Geographic will now invest more into scientific research
Rupert has left all his companies to his son, who though a conservative, does not appear to be the same brand of wacky that his dad was. The son's wife even worked on Clinton's Climate change initiative. They are not science deniers, quite the opposite. They are, however, making it for profit. This is the biggest change, but the son claims teh profits will get re-invested back into science and education. My husband just spent 20 minutes yelling and overtalking me to get the point across that, basically, like father like son (even tough he's rather die than be compared to his own father). Oh, and I'm wrong, shut up. o if you are going to judge a person by their family, and not their actions, be my guest. But that does not appear to be the case here.

What did Murdoch do to the publications he bought?
I have noticed a change in the last 20 years or so.
When I was a teen, NatGeo did good documentaries that I respected and loved to watch. The magazines my Dad has going back to the 1970s or so were all very respectable scientific magazines. But in the last couple of decades, I noticed a change, and not a good one. I'd see "Nova" or "Nature" or "The Nature of Things, with David Suzuki" on TV, I'd always watch with equal appreciation, and NatGeo USED to fall into the same category. But I'd end up disconcerted...the NatGeo specials seemed to....well....suck, more. I would find myself feeling increasingly unimpressed ...and it would always catch me by surprise because NatGeo was such a respected name. I just thought that the current staff was letting things slip, a bit. Now I know what the problem was, and is. And now that they've bought up 73% of it....well, it doesn't bode well, anyway. If I see NatGeo magazines or TV docs, I will watch, and report what I see. I know that the lady who was in charge of Fox's movie division made some pretty impressive investments in science-friendly movies, irreligious TV programs (e.g. Family Guy), and in general showed more interest in profit than ideology. Some conservatives do realize that allying themselves with the religious fundamentalist nut-jobs who try to squash interest in (and knowledge about) science will do major harm to the United States' ability to conduct business in the future, so perhaps the son is of that vein.

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.
I've been having some bad days, I was hoping to hear good news on something, but nope....

They wouldn't know history if it's slapped repeatedly across their faces. I wonder if they're only crap when it comes to European history or if they rape American history in the same way.
They don't do history anymore. They do Axemen and Ice Road Truckers and Pawn Stars. The whole channel is horribly misnamed.
They should call it The Horseshit Channel. (September 10, 2015 at 2:15 am)TheRocketSurgeon Wrote: I suppose this is what the Supreme Court meant by "money is free speech" finding, in the Citizens United v. FEC decision? That's the Golden rule He who has the gold makes the rules.
