Louisiana Supreme Court rules that man didn't ask for lawyer, after clearly asking for a lawyer.

You really don't get that he was asking for a lawyer there, because he used the word 'dog'? What a fucking ridiculous ruling.

So if we’re now going to deny the right to counsel for suspects who — surprise! — use slang commonly used in the black community (though not only there), can we also punish cops who don’t use crucial commas in their reports? If a comma had been used, those shit-for-brains SC justices wouldn’t have to pretend to be baffled by “lawyer dog” to justify ignoring the rights of a black guy they are itching to see convicted.

Look, the guy is accused of a serious crime and, if duly convicted, should pay the price. But this isn’t the way to do it.

This is a good story.  Cops have better things to do than chase rape suspects.  After all, there are donuts that need eating and drivers with broken tail lights who need shooting.

Retired police lieutenant says Memphis neglected rape cases — and forced him to keep quiet about it

Retired Lt. Cody Wilkerson, a 26-year veteran of the force, gave “bombshell” testimony he complained to top brass, who ignored his calls for reform, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported.
Wilkerson testified that police administrators went so far as to muzzle him from talking to an advocate for victims at the Rape Crisis Center.
“It was making the police department look bad,” Wilkinson testified.

Oklahoma collections firm is making sheriffs rich by sending poor people to jail

An Oklahoma court fees collection agency is jacking up debtors’ fees by an additional 30 percent, then working in concert with law enforcement to jail people who can’t pay.
According to The Daily Beast, every sheriff’s department in the state is affiliated with collection agency Aberdeen Enterprizes [sic] II and sheriffs are getting rich by jailing the poor, creating a situation that amounts to a “modern day debtors prison.”
Ira Wilkins is the lead plaintiff in a lawsuit against the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Association, which The Daily Beast’s Kelly Weil said netted more than $800,000 in 2015 from Aberdeen Enterprizes II.

The system is rotten to the core.

This now calls into question every single drug arrest made by those two cops in the past. They have put not only their own integrity on the line, but the entire department as well. I foresee one huge headache for this department.

Frankly, it calls into question every drug arrest ever made by any cop any where.  This same sort of thing was shown in Baltimore a few months back.  When one lie is detected a thousand are suspected!

I seriously doubt that LA is the only police department that rewards cops by the number of drug busts they make.

NYPD cop cuffed for firing gun at occupied car in Cayuga County

An NYPD police officer was arrested in Cayuga County and slapped with a felony charge after he fired two shots at an occupied car, authorities said Monday.

But...

The bullets didn't hit the car, and no one was injured, Auburn police said.

That makes him a pretty shitty marksman, too.
