The guy who came up with it was knighted. It only took 3 years from the time he pioneered genetic profiling to the first convictions based upon it..amusingly..both rapists, one in Florida and one in Leicestershire, in '87.
OFC, the flipside of the coin is that it took along time for jurys to be broadly comfortable with it - and to this day the US Supreme Court has rejected the notion that an indicted or even convicted person has a right to genetic testing.

So far, 1million has been set aside by the city.....190k of which, at a minimum, is already accounted for by the amounts allotted (and capped) for hours spent in jail. I'm guessing that they;re going to find that the additional damages allowed are going to outstrip the current budget, courtesy of yet another Hero Cop heroically violating the law.

Plenty of things that would be war crimes on a battlefield are, apparently, a-ok on a city street in peacetime if a cop does em. It's a sad state of affairs we're in, because all we wanted to do was support law enforcement, understanding that their job is difficult...but in doing so we've created a system where scaring a police officer is a capital offense punishable by summary execution.
We need one (or both) of two things. Police officers who aren't terrified of their own shadows, or an entirely different approach to law enforcement.

I predicted this in another thread. No surprise at all...except the victim was white which is probably the only reason it even went to trial in this fucked up state.

The victim's family should go after that cop with a wrongful death lawsuit.
