Chilling details emerge after Texas police shoot black man in the back, paralyzing him

David Collie, a young black man with his shirt off, was walking near his apartment when police officers working security in the area suddenly pulled up in a squad car, got out, and began approaching him. Collie did not run, but was shot in the back within seconds of seeing the officers. The officers were about 30 feet away and had just announced themselves.

The story is correct.  The guy is shot in the back within the first 35 seconds of the tape...which is bad enough but the first 20-odd seconds is just them driving up, seeing a black guy and deciding to shoot him.

Police claimed that when they approached Collie that he turned toward them and threatened them with a silver object they believed to be the gun used in the robbery.

This case, though, is ground zero for why so many police officers hate body cameras and dash cameras. What the police described back in July and what is seen in the newly-released dash camera footage appear to be two totally different scenes.

These fucking cops should be sci-fy writers.  They can concoct an absurd story at the drop of a hat.

Chicago police body-camera rollout to be finished early: mayor

You would think that was good news but not as far as the boys in blue are concerned.

The union representing Chicago police officers voiced displeasure over the lack of communication about the accelerated rollout of the cameras.
The union would prefer a broader range of footage released so the public also sees video showing mistreatment of officers, union president Dean Angelo Sr said in a telephone interview.
“We don’t see the encounters that are challenging, disrespectful and borderline illegal, threatening someone in uniform just because they are in uniform,” he said.

So what are you saying?  That you demand the right to blow someone away for "borderline illegal" actions?  We have courts to make those decisions, not poorly trained cops.

But then there is this gem.

At a Wednesday demonstration, police Commander Marc Buslik said he was most concerned with the cameras invading the privacy of crime victims or bystanders during police encounters.

Yeah, sure.  I have no doubt that is what you are MOST CONCERNED about you two-bit phony.

Miami cops fired for ‘joking’ about cruising black neighborhoods for target practice

Three rookie police officers in Miami were fired earlier this month after they posted “jokes” about shooting “moving targets” for practice in a predominantly black neighborhood.

“It was senseless, young and reckless,” Justin Pinn, a black member of the civilian board that oversees Miami’s compliance with a federal policing agreement. “It shouldn’t be tolerated. Officers are supposed to be guardians not warriors. I don’t think what they expressed reflects the values of the department.”

Actually they probably do reflect the values of the department but these three were rookies and probably probationary so it was easy to get rid of them.

KilledByPolice.net lists 1,152 people killed by the cops this year.  This puts the death toll solidly between the  numbers for 2014 and 2015. I suppose they will tell us that we should be happy they didn't set a new record.

That's 3.15 per day and not quite 100 per month.
