A Georgia nightmare: This woman was jailed for 4 months for possessing cotton candy

A Georgia woman has filed a federal lawsuit after she spent nearly four months in jail because a roadside drug test administered by untrained police officers falsely identified a bag of cotton candy as methamphetamine.

Monroe County resident Dasha Fincher filed the lawsuit last week against Monroe County, the two deputies who arrested her, and the company that makes the drug test. The lawsuit argues that the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was reckless and negligent and violated her civil rights.

According to the lawsuit, the car Fincher was riding in was pulled over on New Year’s Eve 2016 because of a dark window tint, the deputies said, even though they later admitted the windows were legal. Deputies Cody Maples and Allen Henderson spotted a large open plastic bag inside the vehicle, and Fincher explained that it was cotton candy.

I have a strong suspicion that no test at all was run. There is no fucking way that a disaccharide will test as a high polymer amphetamine.

Cops plant evidence all the time.  Some of the morons have even video-taped themselves doing it.

I've seen news articles that mention the numerous false-positives that particular test kit has returned. With that kind of track record, you would think the use of such an unreliable product would have been suspended well before this particular incident.

My guess? Someone in a position of authority has been getting well greased.

Four St Louis cops charged by feds for beating up undercover colleague during police brutality protest

A group of St. Louis police officers were hit with federal charges after beating up their undercover colleague during a protest — and then covering it up.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that three members of the St. Louis Police Department knocked a 22-year police veteran to the ground, kick him and hit him with a baton — all while he was “compliant and not posing a physical threat,” prosecutors alleged.

Cop gets punished for failing to shoot and kill a black man

In a long feature article, ProPublica in partnership with PBS FRONTLINE’s podcast series, The FRONTLINE Dispatch, chronicles the story of a police officer who was fired after an encounter with a distraught black man. The cop was discharged for failing to shoot him. Another officer who arrived at the scene shot the man dead.

The article tells the story of Stephen Mader, a young rookie officer called on the scene in Weirton, West Virginia. A vet who’d served in Afghanistan, Mader joined the police department in what was referred to by civic leaders as one of the safest small cities in America.

It seems the West Virginia police have their own "prime directive."
