How nice it must be to be able to simply ignore all understanding with a wave of the hand.
"I don't like what we know about _______, so I'm just going to pretend it's not real."
I can't imagine not feeling deep and inescapable shame if I had to ignore some known fact in order to maintain an ideology.
Maybe that's why they're so caught up with self-guilt-tripping, humiliation, and vicarious atonement?
But there isn't anything, there that I should ignore.

That's what cognitive dissonance is for, brah. Like my Gwynnies is whack, and one of these days this top is going to spin right off of the table over her pseudoscientific bullshit - ain't gonna be pretty - but it's a hella ride til then.
And I've got a justification, always good to have an extra set of those.

From a young age people they trust tell them if they don't, they'll burn in a lake of fire for all eternity. It's indoctrinated in them, and they are told if they disagree with what the bible says that they'll go to this lake of fire. Some people are able to see past it, and say "That's ridiculous". On the other hand they're told that if they follow this book, they'll get to see their loved ones in heaven again some day. And who wouldn't like that? Especially after a loved one has died. It's a comforting thought. Coupled together, it makes it hard for anyone who is raised that way to stop believing.
Take away hell, take away heaven, and I wonder how many people would be Christians. Eleven.

Twelve. You forgot Paul.
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost
I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Evolution is the entire basis of about a dozen fields in biology, and the biological sciences in general.
It is one of the best-understood and most-tested/confirmed theories in all of science, including gravity. That's 3 and 5.

Well considering I have a degree in evolutionary biology and worked as a professional biologist (before deciding to become a rocket surgeon... I'm now self-employed, using my former hobby as a career), you'll have to explain to me how my entire professional life was a pseudoscience.
