I don't get it.
I think he just has the best of both worlds but then I am a big Dawkins fan.
I always liked Hitch but I disagreed with some things like his anti-abortion stance and I found him a bit bitter sometimes. Although he was a legend.
Sam Harris is my favourite though

Dawkins helped a lot of people, but also he is a real person and not some artificial freak "likable" mascot of some ideology like Santa Clause, Dalai Salama or fucking Pope that both are having this baby image. because who hates fucking babies? Dawkins isn't here to sell anything, but rather to tell the truth and if he's sometimes rude it's because he's honest. Like I tried to explain earlier with James Randi who confronted this quacks, they are very awful people that laughed in his face and tried to demean him by saying that since his an atheist he's this perverse doomed man and those were the days when there was just one man.
I just wonder what would happen if someone like Dawkins won a Nobel piece prize.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

I agree with you Dawkins is just honest... he tells it like it is - he doesn't go out of his way to be confrontational that only happens when stating the truth leads to that. Surely it's a good thing that he's not too extreme or too mild but gets the balance right. I think Dawkins is awesome too.

You kind of insinuated such though by saying he has an 'image problem', and also as though he can't make up his mind on how he comes across.
This in and of itself assumes he has an interest in such a thing, which would imply him having to care.

So I guess you think the same thing about Carl Sagan, Asimov, Hawking... Dawkins gives lectures, sometimes for hours, teaching people on science and alas look at the shame he advises people to read his books and learn more about science - what a duplicitous cunt! He should just go on Jimmy Fallon and tell few fart jokes for five minutes and get it over with.
I mean people sure can use more knowledge, because evolution is not something that you can easily understand, especially not solely from boring textbooks, starting from my ex-biology teacher. When I just remember some of nebulousities she would tell us like that water freezes underground in winter and that is the reason why trees lose leafs. Or when she "thought" us about evolution telling us that if we start jogging every day our kids will be born with stronger leg muscles - umm no! That's not evolution that's Lamarckism! Not to mention other teacher that was teaching us that pyramids were built by aliens and world will end in 2012 and these are supposed to be people schooled in knowledge.
Not to mention some of Dawkins documentaries like one of his more recent "RICHARD DAWKINS: Sex, Death And The Meaning Of Life" that starts with him saying such bold words: "More and more of us realize that there is no god and yet religion has hold of us." I mean that is so controversial and ahead of it' time that Dawkins documentaries don't air in many of the so called Western World countries because religions still hold that strong of a grip over people.

It seems that Dawkins's latest tour really made religious people cringe. No better evidence of that then that stupid asshole Ken Ham made an "attack" on Dawkins condemning him to hell. Truly nothing makes you as stupid as religion does:
"He is like the scoffers in 2 Peter 3:5 who deliberately reject, or are willingly ignorant of Creation, the Flood, and the coming judgment (the very things Dawkins rejects). It is a deliberate act on their part to ignore the obvious and reject the truth!
Dawkins has spent most of his life rejecting the writings of Moses, particularly Genesis, and trying to get as many people as he can to follow his rebellious lifestyle that leads directly to hell."

Dawkins's tour still stirs fear and panic among xtians in US, like Catholic Crux who posted this recently:
"While he [Dawkins] preaches to the choir, believers and atheists alike will summon the respect and maturity required to critique ideas, not caricatures of each other. They will seriously engage arguments and the values that flow from them."
Yeah I can already envision the arguments:
(image explanation: drawing of religious people that want to stay in dark of stupidity by whacking only source of knowledge - the science)
Let's face it
Really
(image explanation: why should we listen to holy books on where we're going when they failed epically in where we came from)
But the problem is that religious people don't have just problems with science and atheists, but also with other religions. Remember
(image explanation: religion main cause for wars)
And then the shit continues with:
Untold millions will continue to believe that there is more to existence than the physical universe. In spite of our science and our technology, they will perceive that we are creatures within nature rather than masters over it. And they will look to theology for what science cannot provide — robust conceptions of meaning and ethics.
Oh yeah the ethics of the ancient carpenter
(image explanation: man stoning woman because she's not a virgin, since bible tells them to)
But maybe they thought fucking Quran?
And even Bristol Palin jumped on the bandwagon of idioic religious people that want to teach Dawkins a lesson:
"This is the problem with radical atheists like Richard Dawkins. Their agenda is to attack people of all faiths. And Dawkins has to fit even something as obviously evil as the terrorist attacks on 9/11 into his own radical agenda.
So the radical atheist ends up defending the radical jihadists, because according to his crazy ideas, they aren’t evil – they were just brainwashed.
This is an extreme misunderstanding and underestimation of our dangerous terrorist enemies."
She calls it “disrespectful” to the 9/11 victims’ families and even says such talk helps “the terrorists’ agenda.”

Dawkins is a legend.
Yeah... tolerance of extremism through "liberalism" by "moderates" is going too far....

I like Sam Harris. Dawkins not so much. The guy has this "up himself" attitude about him which doesn't appeal to me.
