The power of prayer
#31
RE: The power of prayer
Atheists don't pray because we've found it to be as effective as a catflap in an elephant enclosure

Prayer as I said is defined as a rational act. And that is because you ask for praise. You atheists are much stupider than I thought....

And now the troll cannot contain himself any longer. He has gained a sufficient audience of people willing to accept he is legitimate but has not received the aggression he is after.
Perhaps now he will receive it. From me however he shall simply continue to receive yawns of boredom.
Try harder or don't bother.

Defined only by those who actually pray, not by the rest of us

An all powerful being shouldn't require it's followers to constantly feed its ego.

Some theists are far more ignorant than I would have thought.

Yes defined by the people who pray of the world because as you suggest they are asking for praise. But nevertheless that is the definition. And by definition therefore everyone prays.

Beccs, you should seriously see a shrink or something.

Prayer is irrational here ill even link you http://news.harvard.edu/gazette/2006/04....rayer.html

You say atheists are stupid but look again why is it that the default stance has more evidence on it's side than the side of a raving lunatic
screaming about hell fire and a angry god.
Atheism is a non-prophet organization join today.

I wanted to have a religious discussion about the power of prayer from a christian perspective. It's obvious I've found the wrong forum for that thoughBig Grin

Is this a new record for shortest word salad post?

The definition of prayer is:
Dictionary.com Wrote:noun
1. a devout petition to God or an object of worship.
2. a spiritual communion with God or an object of worship, as in supplication, thanksgiving, adoration, or confession.
3. the act or practice of praying to God or an object of worship.
4. a formula or sequence of words used in or appointed for praying : the Lord's Prayer.
5. prayers, a religious observance, either public or private, consisting wholly or mainly of prayer.
6. that which is prayed for.
7. a petition; entreaty.

Nothing in there about it being a 'rational act'. What does that even mean, to be defined as a rational act? I've never heard any Christian say something like that before. You may claim that prayer is a rational act, but that has nothing to do with whether or not is is rational by definition. And the thing about asking for praise... where did you come up with that? I've heard people pray for a lot of things, but praying for a pat on the back from the big guy isn't one of them.
