Well, it's true.


Similarly, the placebo effect turns out also to be true.  So the lesson is that our beliefs have influence.  Not because they're true but because we believe them.  

The trouble is in trying to believe what one knows not to be true.  Not all of us are able to pull it off.  Not all of us would want to if we could.  I'm one of those whose fondness for reality trumps any hankering for an advantage from either phenomenon.  I don't expect to die early as a result, though it could happen.
