I chose something else. If someone asks me and I feel like talking to them I'll tell them. But I just really hate to discuss religion outside of the forum. I really need a tshirt that says "No one gives a fuck about your 'good news'"

There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

Well, that's great. It's not realistic for everyone though.

I've been working my way out over the last few years so "mostly out" works for me

My parents don't know though. Some of my classmates know, but since I live in the bible belt your bound to cross the evangelical kid, there was once a classmate who asked me if I worshiped the devil during the middle of class. She is actually a girl and a Pentecostal so yeah you should know the kind of crazy I'm dealing with. The whole reason it started was because she said atheists don't exist because they say "Oh my God". I then explained to her it was a cultural thing a middle Eastern atheist might say "Oh my Allah" an Indian atheist might say "by lord Vishnu". A teacher and a student were talking about a statue of Satan being set up in Detroit, Then I said a joke that spiraled into a long conversation, it went like this. Me:" A statue of Satan that sounds awesome " Guy 1: "did you just say a statue of Satan was awesome" Girl 1:"did you really just say that" *Girl I was talking to earlier starts talking to me again* Girl 2:"do you believe in God" Me:"I don't believe in God " Girl 2" so your an atheist" Me:"I guess, that is the definition of an atheist someone who doesn't believe in a God or Gods" Girl 2:"do you worship the devil " Me :"what, no, atheists don't believe in God so why would we believe in the devil " Girl 2:"do you go to an atheist church " Me: "wha--what, no I don't know what you mean by that" Guy 1: "so your an agnostic" Me: "no, you don't get what an agnostic is, look up the definition of agnosticism and atheism you can still be an agnostic and an atheist" *later on girl 1 asks me* Girl 1: "You seem to know a lot about the Bible for someone who doesn't believe in it" Me: "well I think I would know it seeing as how I've read it from back to cover" Girl 1: " but why read it, if you don't believe in it" Me : "I used to be a Christian too you know, reading the Bible actually helped me deconvert' Girl 1: " You weren't a true Christian, a true Christian wouldn't deconvert, I've read the Bible fully my pastor helped me understand it" Me: "here's a challenge read Leviticus for yourself and don't have your pastor help you read it, it has some really stupid rules in that book" Girl 1: "like what" Me: " It says a man can't cut his beard and can't wear mixed fabrics, you also can't eat seafood, the Bible also promotes slavery" Girl 1: "You just read it wrong" Me: "Like I haven't heard that one before" It pretty much ended there. So yeah it wasn't the most logical of debates.
Too many religious gun nuts in my state. Rather not risk it.
I don't generally talk about my beliefs or lack thereof. It's nobody else's business. My dad's side of the family was pretty much torn apart when a portion converted to JW and the other portion didn't so the status quo in my nuclear family has been no discussion; my mom's side of the family was methodist and apparently they were scandalized when my mom married my dad, who was a divorcee. That's about as much religious talk as goes on in my family - and I don't even know the full story of the JW division.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
My husband knows, and that is it. Some of my family believes I'm still a Christian, while others know that I am not; however, none of them know I am an atheist. Just my husband and some people online.

I'm out and proud but do not advertise it or try to get others to agree unless they specifically asked me to explain my beliefs, what atheism entails.
I will never engage in with avowed deists; they are (almost) always disastrous conflicts, fur flies and body parts sometimes become red (and I'm not suggesting furiously red faces ). Robert
