Well, sometimes bigotry doesn't stop at words

Well, sometimes bigotry doesn't stop at words
Henriette Reker won the mayoral elections at Cologne in a landslide. That's the good news for her. The bad news are that she's in an induced coma, having been stabbed yesterday by some bigot being against her immigration policy. Good job for the fear and hate mongers. Their idiot foot soldiers will do the dirty work for them.

Quote:Henriette Reker, an independent close to Merkel’s ruling Christian Democrats (CDU), suffered serious wounds to the neck in the attack in the western city of Cologne, which is to elect its mayor on Sunday, on Saturday morning.

Police arrested the attacker at the scene, with regional police chief Wolfgang Albers describing it as a political act linked to the fact that Reker was “responsible for taking charge of refugees” in the city, the fourth largest in Germany.

How sad. This kind of thing seriously needs to change.

I hope for the future and I hope humanity overall takes measures to improve the well being of world society overall. I hope the progress morality has made throughout history continues. I hope bigotry continues to decide. I hope this happens exponentially quicker. And I hope that all setbacks are striven to be avoided.

Assassinations, sigh. Last act of a true looser(s). I hope the country steps up to punish more than just the perp.

Hm, difficult. Who should be punished for what without completely undermining freedom of speech? The public can punish the movement by widthdrawing support. The whole pegida thing might now become even more of a looney fringe movement and lose the last bit of support in the ordinary population. The guys who ran around with the mock gallow display might get into more trouble because of it, but they are already being investigated, and the investigators threatened, and that investigated, before the attack.

As a dumb American I once had three mental stereotypes for the Germans:

1.  Clean business - they don't cheat on emission tests.

2.  Civil politics - they don't assassinate politicians who disagree with them.

3.  Dirndls, Lederhosen, Kraftwerk and Rammstein
