the only futile and completely useless debate you can have with an atheist is one regarding the existence of God , but concerning issues of religion i have found that many atheists have come from an extensive background in religion and many know a lot about the Bible . yet they are obviously going to refute your claims , or they might agree , but thats what a debate involves is disagreement . but most are not ill informed with Bible topics and would be interested in debating them i think .

That's not entirely true. While the arguments for his existence are lacking and totally unconvincing, the debate could still serve to make a few atheists yet.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."
For context, this is the previous verse:
"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

yes true it could be productive in making a religious person question their religion but it wouldn't convince an atheist that God exists any efforts in doing that would be futile so i guess it depends on what side your on whether it could be considered useless or not

Probably not.

not many people have belief systems that can be swayed by the opinions of strangers unless their beliefs are incredibly weak or they have a strong desire to please other people and conform to other peoples beliefs , but pointing out flaws and contradictions in religion is always an effort that is worth attempting and can be effective after all many atheists were once religious .

As a matter of fact, I'd say that I didn't really start reading the bible critically until what little faith I had was gone.
I disagree, some of you have read the Bible but you take to it with a negative attitude, biased against it. Actually I've seen little from you that would make me believe you understand the Bible.

There may very well be atheists here who have read and studied the Bible objectively. There are certainly several who have studied the book with bias towards it at some point...no shortage of ex-theists here. Why does understanding the Bible mean accepting it in its entirety as truth, in your eyes?

Nothing wrong with that. How else can one judge God (assuming he exists)? Or are you saying God should be beyond judgement even if he did things that harm us?
If someone has either an impoverished idea of God's nature and/or inadequate standard for The Good the he lacks the ability to distinguish between what only appears to be harmful and that which actually is. In addition God's restorative justice alters the calculus.

Great question. That's just the other end of bias.

No, it's very unlikely anyone is going to suddenly convince me there is a god. Not least because they can't even define what they are trying to convince me of.
There is no new evidence, only warmed-up old fallacious arguments.
But I'm not being deliberately difficult, because I don't care either way. It would just be interesting if I found out that there was some evidence. I would love to see something challenging, rather than the same old shit over and over.

Get that a lot here.
It would be easier to discuss how, who, and why to believe with atheists if they believed.
Still better than wanting sex with God threads.
