But in reality, at least I think, many southern states are actually more Liberal then you think but with plenty of people thinking their votes won't effect anything.
It's just a little baffling that anyone, now matter how much of a Dripshit they are, would think that it's the liberals who are complaining about charity work by a church.
That's like a Vegan complaining because you eat spinach.

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I work for a not-for-profit that provides housing, employment and medical assistance to the mentally ill. There's a right way to do things and a wrong way. Just taking in people because it feels good isn't always helpful to them or wise. There could be code issues about housing transient populations in R1 districts, not unlike having a dry-cleaner or liquor store on the block. Your anti-Christian bias is really disappointing. Do you really hate us that much to use one families objection about large numbers of people loitering, smoking, and acting strange and/or threatening next door and use that as an excuse to paint all Christians as hard-hearted hypocrites. The problem with your argument is that you pulled it out of thin air. We're not talking aboujt large numbers of people loitering, etc. The article says those people had been there for a year and a half and their presence was so unobtrusive that the neighbors did not even know they were there.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I understand that liberal and conservative don't mean the same thing in the UK as they do in the US, so we have to be careful about throwing words around thinking that people know what we're talking about.

The article tried to make the point that conservative christians really are hypocritcal, bad people. Then it uses the example of a couple neighbors complaining about what's going on next door. We don't know whether they are christians, atheist, Jews, or whatever. And there were only two of them to boot. How does this make the case that the article was attempting to make? I see this kind of this stuff all the time on my liberal brother's facebook page. It comes from people and organizations with an agenda to discredit christians and/or conservatives. Quite often, my liberal atheist friends and I will go round trying to close homeless shelters and food kitchens. For shits and giggles, we sometimes order a HUGE meal and eat it in front of homeless, hungry children while making *yummy* sounds. Are evangelicals allowed to possess a sense of humor?

I think both sides here may be missing the point. If you complain about a church (or any other organization) attempting to help people out of a desperate situation, you're a shit, irrespective of your religious views. And if your complaint is directed at a church where the homeless people being helped are living quietly, not 'loitering, smoking, or being threatening', you're a gold-plated, world class shit, who should enter the next World Heartless Shit Championship. I fancy your chances.
