Fantastic in what way? Nothing he says is spectacularly good or exceptional, most of his opinions are similar to other atheists and he doesn't add anything very interesting.
He just lays stuff out in a flippant, yet intelligent way. I don't follow jacolyn glenn or mr repzion, or cult of dusty, because they do basically the same thing as the amazing atheist, but they aren't nearly as interesting, personality wise. The amazing atheist is just a person who I enjoy watching, he's entertaining and I like the ultra no fucks given spin he puts on everything. I've been watching him for years. I feel like you hate me now for being condescending in that remark, sorry lol. I can be very, very brash. It gets me in a lot of trouble.

One of my friends who moved away and I fell out of touch with became an atheist in the past year and won't shut up about it on facebook. Not about being an atheist (though she does that too, that part doesn't bother me), but about how "bad" Christians are. She posts ridiculous memes and sometimes random news articles (some from years ago) about the most extreme, isolated, nut job cases which I've never even heard of before, to somehow prove that all Christians are bad people. And then she turns around and posts about how Christians think all atheists are bad, but that they're not all bad and that we need to stop generalizing lol. Which is funny because not a single Christian facebook friend of mine posts nasty stuff about atheists being bad people. The only one posting hateful stuff, is her.
I try not to let it annoy me too much because I know she's bi polar and has other mental illnesses and has suffered from hallucinations/etc in the past, but sheesh, pipe down woman.

I had forgotten about Ayn Rand. She was a total cunt.
It seems that PZ Meyers and The Amazing Atheist are the most disliked here. I've never watched the latter, but PZ Meyers being hated doesn't surprise me in the least. What a douche.

New atheists (I don't mean *New* atheist, I mean, newly come to think that way) can often be like ex-smokers, sadly. Some go through a anti-theist period for various reasons. Often they are angry at a feeling of being lied to or tricked, or something like that. They may also be feeling like they are now "out" of their social circle, and so they are intentionally outing themselves more. Kind of like how some overweight people call themselves fat right upfront, just so you can't.
I hope it passes in your friend. It does not pass in everyone, but I think it does for most people going through it. Particularly if she is already suffering a mental illness.

She was my first influence as an atheist, and had some solid points, but her economic rhetoric compared to her end-of-life self-refutation marks her indelibly as a twat.

The better theists and most atheists have no trouble copping to agnosticism. Only atheists who have their critical capacity eroded during prolonged bouts of theism want to keep the sure-as-shooting frame of mind they enjoyed so much as theists. The correct response to theism is incredulity, not an argument over the facts.
