How's Everyone Feeling Right Meow?
RE: How's Everyone Feeling Right Meow?
shoulder pain, lotsa shoulder pain

had Dr look at it, trying motrin and a few other palliatives and time, but it's not any better, and googling hasn't helped either. I don't seem to have a 'conventional' cause for the pain.

I ruled out RA, but despite Dr seeing some OA in the joint, symptoms do not seem to match that at all. When it's bad it radiates down arm and up into neck, amazingly similar to stiff neck from 'sleeping on it funny', but it comes on whenever, and only when the shoulder pain starts lighting up seriously.

Effing annoying.

You spelled it wrong, but how you does one fill a pizza with alcohol?

I have a similar experience that is caused by nerve compression from disc degeneration in the thoracic spine. Took a trip to the neurologist and an MRI to sort that one out.

Have you looked into RSI? Do you know what brought it on? Ie have you been doing any fine repetitive movements lately, like using a mouse for a repetitive task?

I only suggest this because you said it doesn't have a conventional cause and RSI fits into that category as well and affects similar areas (ie the arms mainly).

Anyway, RSI is all about referred pain from the back, caused by tension and/or bad posture... so it manifests in the arms but it actually comes from the back. So when I had it at its worst, my miracle cure... well relief for a while at least... came from deep back massages that got rid of all that stiffness and tension; they were part of my physio and, although painful, they were the highlight of my week. So you've mentioned stiffness as well, so maybe you could try that and see if it helps? Maybe get your partner to do it or something? All it requires basically is really digging in with your fingers, and getting all those knots out. And if you don't have a masseuse available, all you need is a tennis ball and you stand with your back to a wall, will the ball between you and the wall, and move your body to roll the ball across your back... it's basically the poor man's back massage but it really works Smile... and it is what my physio suggested I do inbetween sessions.

Anyway I hope that helps Smile It might be completely off the mark but it's something to look into if you want to.

CDs suggestion is on the talking points list for Dr, and I'll add the RSI idea too.

It's odd (to me at least) I have no restriction in range of motion, and that the pain recedes when I'm using that shoulder/arm. It just aches when I'm not doing anything with it, like driving or sitting. And I can't say anything I've done physically has made it sufficiently worse that I would associate the two. For instance, did some ladder work recently, and I had my usual leg/foot discomfort afterwards, the shoulder didn't bother during the job and was not appreciably worse later on that day when it recommenced when I was trying to relax after supper.

Kinda head scratching.

You do quite physical work if I understand correctly... something like construction or farming or something? I don't associate RSI being caused by that sort of stuff - I've never had it from large physical movements, even repetitive ones, only small fine movements from basically an otherwise static position eg sitting in the same position for hours on end, playing a repetitive computer game. So from what you say it doesn't sound too likely that it's RSI... but whatever it is could have commonalities with it... cos what CD said was referring to the back as well... so whatever it is, the massage might be worth a try. My mate had a problem with his shoulder recently, which sounds a lot like what you're describing, so I'll have to ask him about it.

Melancholy.

Saw the doc today. I knew going in that the MRI showed nothing of significance so I wasn't going to hear the worst possible news - the really scary stuff was ruled out by that. Nonetheless, the news was unwelcome.
