I was born with the name oh my mom's friend, she remarried and I took her new husbands name. Then I moved in with my mom's parents and I took my mom's maiden name. (Which made the first marriage silly, I suppose) Then my great grandfather didn't like my first name and my grandparents changed it as far as school was concerned. Then I went back to my birth first name after he died but I changed the spelling. Then I got married, now divorced and back to my birth surname.
I have had 2 first names (3 if you include the spelling difference, but I don't) and 4 surnames. Lol

Did you keep the various IDs up to date? You never know when that shit might come in handy.

My wife took my name. I didn't ask her to do so - in fact, I suggested she either keep her own name or get one of those hyphenated thingies. *shrug*
Name's a name. She shags me regularly and compliments my cooking, which is really all that matters.

My take on this: it's all up to the individual.
I've said for years that IF I get married, something else I've always said would never happen, I'll keep my surname.
Anderson's a cool last name and, frankly, for professional reasons, people know me by that name.

Nasty, but true. Incredibly, stupidly, assholishly sexist, actually.
I changed my name because it was important to my husband, despite us both being feminists. Sometimes I wonder if it was wise because it has professional considerations for me, but he is important to me and it was important to him, so I did it, and I'd do the same again.

@kingpin-yeah, I think I may have some identity issues there...
@crossless-umm...I want as good about it as I could have been. All the stuff that happened as a kid, I just was told what my new name was. Like all of middle school I had a different first name. But when I got married I changed my name legally. And then again when I got divorced, but not for quite awhile. I had a hard time with renewing my passport after my divorce though. Because I was going back to my birth name, but not the maiden name I used when I married. I got my new passport just days before a scheduled trip to Mexico.

Just because it's neo-psychonism femibubble doesn't mean that it isn't true, Aractus. You guys are terrible. I have as much use for silly ideas about gender from the 1950s as I have for a nuclear driven black and white TV set, thank you.
Actually, I know a guy whose original last name was the German word for "wet". He took his wife's name when they married, for, you will probably agree, entirely non-pussyefeminification-related reasons.
