The problems with those movies is that parts of them are clearly aimed at one audience, which is fine (I love kids movies!) but parts of them aren't aimed at anyone. Not even die hard drama fans enjoyed the senate hearings or the chit chat between the Jedi's about the politics, or the worse than Twilight romance. And it sure runied what might have been entertaining kids/young adult movies.
Well there aren't "hours" of politics, and politics is the reason for conflicts to escalate into wars.
The Senate wasn't portrayed well by any stretch of the imagination. I mean for one thing Padme is a Senator in Episode II, but she hasn't been to Coruscant to sit in the Senate in something like 10 years!! And she only went so she could cast her vote on the creation of an army for the republic - so apparently she didn't vote on anything in the Senate for the last 10 years!!
And also, the Republic is a democracy - she can't just leave somebody else in charge to do her work for her (Jar Jar), that's not how democracy works.

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
