And the future? Do you science will have an impact on the levels of belief?

You can cite me all sorts of reasons why you think people will still be religious or believe in god in the future, but for me it's pretty clear why they won't. And the reason is, we're all the same at some basic level. We all have the same brains. If I could do it, so can the rest of the world.

But they are not and that is the point. There are more an more each year.

We're not there yet, but we will be. That kind of cultural change doesn't take place overnight. I think we've already gotten rid of it to some essential extent, we just don't realise it yet.

This is getting quite amusing.

Tell me again, why do you think we won't get rid of religion?

I'm undecided on whether some people need to believe or not.

Personally my instinct is that some people are more gullible than others, and maybe there always will be religions: But I don't think there has to be.

Does science impact your level of belief?  I certainly havent seen people abandoning their faith in genesis after having modern synth explained, demonstrated, and thoroughly established before them for their benefit.  Sure, there are people out there who leave their faiths because science, effectively, says no...but there are just as many pyrimidiots in the world who see some piece of scientific literature and launch into a brand new version of asshattery.

Look at all the QM bullshit of late.

Obviously cant speak for Jorg, but I couldn't help but chime in on that one, you left the door pretty damned wide Steve.  Rolleyes

I'm not trying to be rude but I honestly can't tell whether you people really are that stupid or are just unable to concede a point.

Science will change what we believe. 500 years ago, the existence of souls was unquestioned; today in mainstream belief, the role of the brain in personhood has supplanted belief in a soul.

You and I are atheists. Therefore anyone can become atheist. What's so hard to understand about that? Why do you have to drag the conversation into wholly different domains it has nothing to do with?
