RE: When Atheists Can't Think Episode 1: No Evidence for God?

How long should I wait for these links? I'm new around here.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

This is not a convincing reason to be an atheist. Why?
It's possible for someone to be too blind or too ignorant to see or understand the evidence. Just like a toddler might say "I see no evidence of the validity of Quantum Mechanics" or a blind woman might say "I see no evidence of the existence of colors" the problem might be with the person and not the evidence.
Clearly, if the atheist wants the public to believe that there is no evidence, they have to be able to respond meaningfully to purported examples of theistic evidence.
Atheists here, for the most part are not competent enough to do this.
And hence, when someone says they are an atheist because they have seen no evidence, the best response seems to be to send them to an optometrist.
No evidence. No scientific proof of any kind. No way to know which one of the thousands of human gods to follow, or if any one of them ever existed. And now, when it would be SO EASY for any deity to absolutely prove their existence to the entire planet, instead of relying on the ravings of power-hungry, money-hungry preachers, . . . nothing. God could stop ISIL with a word. Maybe Allah is the real one? Reasonable study of religious writings makes it pretty clear that all gods were created by man. When we have proof - - not just fantasies and old myths, but scientific proof, such as a deity showing up and saying "hi", I will change my mind.

Why do people want us to believe in a god anyway. I don't get it.

I think for some it's a way of making them feel better about their own belief. "See? You believe in silly things too, so we're equal!"

When atheists say we have seen no evidence of this stuff you're selling, what we mean and what we should be saying is we have seen no credible evidence. It's a common misspeaking, I've been guilty of it myself. Lots of things can be given as evidence, but not everything stands up to scrutiny; and whatever remains doesn't actually evidence the thing it's intended to. After all that, you need multiple points of consistent, converging evidence before you can draw a safe conclusion.
This just needs repeating. ^^^^ Yes, I said no evidence. I meant no credible evidence, as Stimbo said. Holy books and sermons and apologetics and fake science - these things are not evidence.

Your link to TWO DOZEN (OR SO) THEISTIC ARGUMENTS: They are arguments. This is not data. This is not proof. And it's a pretty painful example of apologetics.

Exactly. The plural of argument is not data. We have to wonder, if only academically, why there's such an urgent need for all this logical prestidigitation if there was even the slightest atom of credible evidence to be found.

It's going to be a long time...
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Is the roadrunner not especially known for supporting his claims, then? Surely not!
