He's got a link to a bunch of arguments from ignorance!  "I don't know how X, therefore God."

Yep, and by the classic definition of evidence, i.e. that which makes something more or less likely, I don't know isn't evidence.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

We won't know until you provide evidence, will we?

I think God is too unfalsifiable to have evidence anyway.

Provide empirical evidence and she will change her mind.  She does not have a mantra.  She analyzes scientific data.
Just to be clear, empirical evidence is not: quotes from books, personal anecdotes, or philosophical arguments.

You're just repeating a mindless mantra. How do I communicate with someone like that?

Exactly how is "50 years" (clarification, it took me 50 years to break away from xtian fundamentalism) a mindless mantra?  The Lord's Prayer is a mindless mantra.  Attaining my current opinion on the non-existence of deities required the opposite of mindlessness.

More insults.  And you are right, you have not been at all successful in communicating with me.  Drop the "I'm smart and you're an idiot" attitude, provide real scientific proof for your beliefs, and we would certainly have greater success.  Surely you know that no human being on this planet wants to have a conversation with someone who starts out by insulting them, and keeps doling out the insults.

Of course it is unfalsifiable, just as any claim to a supernatural entity can only be. The unfortunate conundrum which unfalsifiable claims present is that they cannot be absolutely denied without making another unfalsifiable claim! Therefore, my atheism registers 6.999, because it can't be logically 7. The evangelopricks will always exploit this condition because they know how easily they can drag us down to their level with it, and all we can do is try and spell it out for them how unlikely their claims are by pointing out why they would never be worth considering.

True. But basically this is why I have given up asking for evidence.

Not only do I believe there isn't any evidence, but I now also believe there cannot possibly be any, because gods are unfalsifiable.

You and I both know that. There cannot possibly be any evidence for an unfalsifiable claim, so can the claim itself be denied as easily? Is it really not unfalsifiable to say there can be no god? To me that certainly stands to reason, but I don't know how I would express that without any logical blowback.

Anyway, the purpose of demanding evidence from the trolls (ostensibly, anyway) has been to shut them up - guess I've seen how well that works. :-( But I'd like to think it also serves those who lurk, while trying to decide for themselves what to make of all this.

Did you ever try the rosary thing? Talk about "mindless mantra".

So do you think it helps anyone? For me, lurking the Interwebs was part of the process in my decision to stop caring about theism and churches, but this was so many years ago I wonder if it still works the same.
