What made you give up on Jesus?

It was the wind and the rain.

Are you familiar with the parable of the wise and foolish builders?
(wise man built his house on the rock, foolish man built his house on the sand. the wind and rains came and the wise man's house stood firm, while the foolish man's house fell down.)

The house Jesus is talking about is our faith/religious works. If we do not build them on a true picture of God, then God (The foundation of this story) will not support the house/religious works "Faith" and when the house is tested it will fall in on itself. Meaning God will be silent and not support the corrupt idea they may have.

The ex-christian members here had their 'houses' fall down. Which is a gift from God and often times with exchristian atheist an answer to a prayer.
Most of them have prayed for proof of God. So what does God do? He wipes their slate clean. He destroys their broken or corrupt understanding of Him, so they have an opportunity to find out who God really is on His terms. Why? What do you think would happen if God supported the crazy ideas some of these guys had? Like the idea that He is a magic genie who's purpose is to serve and provide favors and trinkets everytime they pray a certain way? No rather than support these broken theological notions God sets a bar that we must humble ourselves to get past. So we may approach Him on His terms.

When we approach God on His terms we not only get to know God/Proof of God we are also blessed by Him. So when the wind and rains do come we will barely notice the storm in our homes.

You are in an abusive situation. Not saying there is a legal remedy. But you are definitely being fucked if what you write is not more Poe nonsense.

If you're not still trolling, then you should just: hunker down and not make any waves; become an independent adult ASAP; and generally steer clear of your parents for a good long time. They're just not good parents. They have drunk enough Kool-ade that if they heard a voice telling them to prepare Abraham's altar, they'd have you tied down and gutted before any interceding angel could reach you.

I basically had the same experience as Vic regarding my short experience with religion.

Growing up, we went to church (Roman Catholic) and I was taught to say my nightly prayers, but when I was still young we stopped going to church for some reason. The nightly prayers stopped after that, and my family was not the type to make religion a big deal in our home. In fact, other than seeing the pictures of Jesus on the walls, religion was a non issue.

Later, when I was a teenager and in the last year of high school, I allowed myself to be duped into believing in Christianity. I was basically a loner throughout my high school years, and religion/church was a way and a place for me to feel I belonged. I learned the hard way the lengths to which believers will go to emotionally manipulate people into believing as they do.

Started sniffing glue instead of going to church and I think I'm a better man today because of it.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.

Impersonation is treason.

Cover your head and your husband will tell you what to think. If you don't have a husband then you can't think.  It's biblical.

For me, I have always questioned that which didn't make sense. The bible has never made sense. I saw the inconsistencies and when I asked questions about them to a pastor, I received circular arguments. I left because no one should ever feel confused about a faith they were indoctrinated into as a child.

Being as none of it made sense, as I grew into adulthood, confirmation of that became obvious. I have yet to have any of those questions I asked long ago, answered to the point that they actually made any sense. For me, it only seems logical that there is no god of any kind and there never was. There are just too many horrible things in this world that could have been prevented if such a "loving god" did exist.

The main problem is that many people (billions) believe in ethnocentric Middle Eastern Jewish and Arabian religious fairy tales when they are not Jewish or Arab.  That's like a Swede believing in an Aztec deity.  Or like an Eskimo believing in Hinduism.  It's silly.

Well.  Are we finally hearing an honest voice?  If so, kudos.  After so many ridiculous lies it's hard to tell whether this is a real question or not.

Give up on Jesus? . . . well, I work in a church.  And all of the contradictions and absurdities that I was hearing and seeing just started to pile up.  So many things about xtianity just make no sense to me, such as the virgin birth, the resurrection, the need for a blood sacrifice, original sin (particularly since we now can trace DNA and know that there was not an Adam & Eve, and there was no "original couple"), miracles, religious wars, the utter capricious viciousness of Yahweh, the absurdity of God's adopting of one tiny tribe, inhabiting a space smaller than Lake Michigan, and then demanding that the word be spread via missionaries.  The total lack of Yahweh's contact with all of the other people on the planet at that time.  The total lack of proof since then.  The total lack of proof now, when a Deity could prove to the entire world, with one viral video, that they exist, and eradicate religious conflict and ISIL and all the rest.  I gradually got to the point where the very existence of any Deity just makes no sense to me.
