Writing, Writers, and Scribbles.

RE: Writing, Writers, and Scribbles.
The religious monotheists had three books inside them, and that's where they should have stayed.
A polemical radical on anything and everything topical.

I have tried my hand at writing. I wrote a novel that wasn't very good and have written some short stories that I published online somewhere.

I've written two screenplays. The first is in need of a serious rewrite, but he second is significantly better. I'm interested in teleplays as well, and have a couple of projects that I'm currently in the process of fleshing out. I definitely think I'd do better to focus on one at a time, though.

I also write short stories, (usually horror or suspense) for pure enjoyment. It's an excellent means of stress-reduction for me.

Yeah, my projects are sort of scattershot right now too, Thena. Two books in progress, and I've been writing songs lately. Not so much poetry recently, but I can feel some stanzas warming up inside me.

I used to dabble in writing short fiction of that sort myself. Very enjoyable process, indeed.

Yeah, I remember the song you posted a few months ago in a discussion between you, the Duck and I.
It was made quite an impression...very clear to me that you're quite talented, Thump.

Would love to check out the poetry, if you're ever up to posting it.
I would definitely get it if you're not comfortable doing that, though.

Thanks for the kind words, ma'am.

I'm comfortable with posting most of my stuff, but as I haven't written poems in a while, they don't really represent where I'm at right now.

Anyway, here's a couple, the first a poem, the second a lyric to a song --

Empty Air

They’re all so cold,
and distant,
utterly unconcerned,
emotions unreturned.
They sleepwalk their way through the day with
nothing really real to say.
You can try to lay circuitry, but there’s no electricity --
why wire your emotions when there’s no telegraph?
Empty words, empty stare,
between me and them there’s only empty air,
molecules stilled by fears gone a-flutter,
a window made useless by the use of a shutter,
for their eyes might be open,
but their hearts seem closed
and any attempt at reaching inside seems predisposed
to failure.
Why even try?

Every so often, the façade cracks open.
Every so often, the dam is broken.
Every so often, I catch myself hoping that
our smiles are more than just empty tokens.

***************

Grabbing the Lightning

When all the wishin' in the world
ain't turnin' the trick, and
you go to grab the lightning
only to find it's too quick,
and you realize that one more time
your chance has slipped away

you can spend your time
and lavish your regrets
on this unhappy penchant
for the riskiest bets.
You can lay awake nights
wond'rin where it all went awry
but the riskiest bets
bring me no regrets --
I'll know I've lived
before I die.

When you're at a place where disappointment
doesn't bring you dismay --
when no matter what, there's peace in your heart --
that's a place you ought to stay.
When you already know that it's time to go
shouldn't you be gone?
Some other day, some other way
you'll find where you belong.

And if that day never comes
when you feel that you've arrived
you'll find a secret pleasure
in knowing you've survived.
And if that ain't enough
you can do it again
'cause no one knows exactly
where your road ends.

Thump, those are easily the two best pieces of member-produced poetry I've seen here. Seriously and sincerely, well done.

Damn Thump, those are fucking awesome. No way I'm sharing my shit now. Tongue
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:

"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."

For context, this is the previous verse:

"Hi Jesus" -robvalue

I'm blushing, y'all. Thank you!

Exian, I'd love to read your work. If not here, then PM -- but really, just put 'em here.
