Some advice, while you did come to your senses, emotional reasons are not valid reasons to accept or reject any claim, on any issue, not just religion. If you saw hypocrisy in others behavior, that only addresses morality, it still does not address scientific evidence for rejecting ANY god claim.

Secondly, it isn't just enough to say "that makes no sense", it is also important to know scientifically how the world works. It is also important to learn all the slick snake oil arguments theists pull on you that can suck you back in. There are very elaborate apologists who write long books of tripe trying to convince you that they have the one real god and the one right book. But they all do this, not just Christians. I have been debating online for 15 years and see apologists from Jews and Islam and Hinduism, and other religions as well.

One slick trick I have seen all the major religion's apologists pull is they try to debunk science, then when they cannot do that they try to co opt it to say it matches their holy book. But again, this isn't just Christianity, they all do it. And don't worry if you run into some theist who seems to stump you, don't give up right then, take what they say and pass it by other skeptics multiple skeptics first.

If you have no reading list, and take your time because it took me years to read these, unless you are a bookworm and love reading you can get through them quicker.

2000 Years of Disbelief, By James Haught isn't scientific, but it uses skeptics quotes from antiquity to modern day to show you it is ok to question

The God Delusion, Richard Dawkins
God Is Not Great, Christopher Hitchens, (He can be really Oxford wordy) But this is his easiest read.
The End Of Faith, Sam Harris, although I am not a fan of his Buddhism fetish.
Letter To a Christian Nation, Sam Harris
"God The Failed Hypothesis" Victor Stenger
"The New Atheism" Victor Stinger.
"Infidel" Ayaan Hirsi Ali

If you don't know these scientists you should.

Neil Degrasse Tyson, he hosted "Cosmos" series on Fox, really good science for laypeople.
Richard Dawkins
Lawrence Krauss
Brian Greene
Bill Nye, but everyone knows him
Others will add to this list and the books above, but again, take your time.

Terms you should know.

"Fallacy of Pascal's wager"
"Ocham's Razor"
"Epicurus the problem with evil"

And again, you are not alone, many were once where you are at. And never be afraid of getting stumped. Just bring their arguments here, and we will be happy to rip them apart.

She is probably cheating or she met somebody new. I went through almost exactly the same situation, except I was an atheist when we started dating. When she met the new guy she started becoming distant and she just used the religion angle as a way to drive us apart. We dated for 3 years, planning to marry, then it was like a switch flipped and she went complete jesus freak.

If it comes to an end over something as trifling and silly as her religious opinions, just remember that living well is the best revenge. Mourn as long as you need to and then move on to something better. Let her pine over you and the wonderful life you make for yourself, not the other way around.

If it's any consolation. Charles Darwin was married to a christian. But, quite honestly, there will always be the elephant in the room.

It hurts, but I'm hurt to: http://atheistforums.org/thread-40404.html

Losty is ignoring me. Sad

All jokes aside. You should take it that people are attached to God. It's a phenomenon in the world. People are attached to God and hate people detaching themselves from him.

In fact the most people they love are people they believe were closest to God like his chosen Prophets or Mary, mother of Jesus.

You should try to understand their point of view. You may not agree with it but something you should tolerate and with forbearance and patience understand.

God belief is not a "phenomenon". It is a result of our species notorious false perceptions. Science does explain in very mundane natural terms why people make up gods and believe in them. The God Delusion is one of those books. Victor Stenger in two books explains why god is a failed hypothesis in "God The Failed Hypothesis" and "The New Atheism"/

Life does not always have time to asses and test, cognitive life evolved to make very quick decisions. The antelope on the African plane doesn't have time to asses if the swaying grass is merely the wind, or a lion stalking it. And our species as well gap fills in much the same way. It is also why you can walk into a clean glass door because your brain is subconsciously filling in the gap that there is no door there. For early humans the world was scary, so seeing death of others by nature, lead humans to think the volcano was either a god itself or being controlled by a human like deity.. The first gods were earthy and animal like or of nature like a volcano, or storm or wind. Later they became more human many with animal features.

My personal experience of xtian "unconditional love" is that it only applies to xtians who believe exactly the same things they do.  Everybody else on the planet can burn.

What you have written is completely untrue.

Christians do not universally believe that atheists will burn in hell for all eternity. Sure, some do, but the two largest groups of Christianity (Catholicism and Orthodoxy) do not teach this, and they combine to form the overwhelming majority.

Yes, xtians are taught to love, but just because they try to love you (and not just one another) it does not mean that they will be willing to marry a non-believer because they hold that the two become one flesh and the scriptures are clear that they should not marry someone to whom they unequally yoked in terms of faith.

Did I miss something? When did you finally admit to being a christian? I'd asked several times in the past with no response.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

People are attached to their belief   in a god.

Since the existence of a god has never been supported by evidence and reasoned argument, there is nothing to prove that there is actually a god they are attached to.

Quote:In fact the most people they love are people they believe were closest to God like his chosen Prophets or Mary, mother of Jesus.

Again. Nothing but insufficient evidence and reasoned argument to prove any of these people were close to any god.

Quote:You should try to understand their point of view. You may not agree with it but something you should tolerate and with forbearance and patience understand.

Wait a second!

kmthang did not stop loving his girlfriend, she is the one that is doing that. For nothing more than disbelieving in the existence of a god.

In the vast majority of relationships, be they family, loved ones, or friends, when someone in one of these relationships becomes an atheist, it is hardly ever the atheist that disassociates themselves from their theist family and friends. It is almost always the other way around.

Almost every week on the show The Atheist Experience, an atheist teen will call in because they are worried that their parents will no longer pay for their college if they come out as an atheist to their parents. Or worse, kick them out.

  [/quote]

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
