What is the meaning of Life?

Theists think that too, "Be fruitful and multiply", but they think you fuck to make babies so Gawad can have more gang minions and the fictional afterlife is the carrot sold to the gullible. "Fuck and die" is simply not sexy enough for them.

I hate that word precisely because it is just as cliche and loaded as any other platitude.

I am fine with humans having different goals and desires and there is room for all classes. What I am not fine with is demonizing the poor, or our pay gap. Most people if lucky manage to keep a roof over their heads and food on their table, but even that is becoming harder even for the middle class.

The world has enough rich and famous people. And I hate this attitude that if you don't move up, you are worth less. Sagan's Pale Blue Dot speech states the nature of reality. Friend and foe alike end up landing the same way. Rich and poor also end up landing the same way. We are equal.

I don't mind at all saying "do what you want in life", I do hate celebrities like musicians and sports stars and politicians saying "you can do it". The math is simply not there for everyone to get to the top. If everyone was at the top at the same time no one would do the work. There will always bee more in the middle and at the bottom. It isn't impossible to get to the top, nor is that saying don't try. But to ignore the odds sets people up to be unrealistic and then needlessly punish themselves when they don't get there.

If you cannot get to do what you love, and most people don't, then the next best thing is to work with people you enjoy and use your off time to relax doing the things you do love. So my definition of "success" is being happy and being yourself. Material things come and go, but relationships are far more important. Some do get lucky, and nobody should fault them for that. I only frown on those who get to the top and forget that they did not do it all by themselves.

Wow. Sounds like this word has definite negative connotations for you. Sorry.
I don't have an anger problem, I have an idiot problem.

Instead of trying to fill your life with a cliche and loaded word like "purpose", be yourself and if you want something, do it for you.

I spent far too much of my life trying to chase other people's ideas of "purpose". Be you, focus on you, dont chase other's ideas.

I am a hombody, I used to go out a lot as a teen and adult, college was fun, but to me, nothing beats simplicity of my mom's laughs, her thank yous for taking her shopping, to her doctor's apts, my cat annoying me at 5 am screaming at me for food. Being online learning both theists arguments and atheists arguments. Being able to post with other atheists so that I know I am not alone, and they know they are not alone. Reading about science and the vastness of the universe.

I do like some mundane entertainment like ABBA and the Redskins, but those likes pale compared to what I mentioned above. Don't look outward to be filled, don't expect others or things to fill you. Look inward, think about what you want and fill you with you. When you do that, you can find comfort no matter where you end up.

Thanks so much Brian! That helped a lot. Smile

Motherfucking mooching bleeding heart liberals! You stupidly thought my advice was free? Look dude, I am a lone shark, a wall street banker, a Koch brother, I expect 5 tones of pocket lint by the end of the week or I'll send Tony over to your house and, well, you know, tire irons and kneecaps! (Note to self: He already knows you are an ABBA fan, probably laughing as he reads this)

Just so you know Pool, I also am not advocating you live like me. I am me, I am not advocating do nothing. I am merely advocating be happy with you first. What works for me only works for me. You have to figure out how to fill you for yourself and be you for yourself.

Why do you say that? Does my disagreement threaten your pretty picture of the world? Don't project thoughts in my head that are not there. Life is not a script so I really don't give one fuck what your definition of "success is". I have only one life and I do not owe you an explanation as to how to live mine. Nor does being realistic make me negative. Be yourself do what you want. But I am under no obligation to live my life the way you think I should.

"Negative" same  word used by religious people when you tell them there is no afterlife.

Such hostility. In both of your posts. Quote: "I hate that word". Quote: " I hate this attitude". Quote: " I do hate celebrities like musicians and sports stars and politicians saying "you can do it"". Quote: I really don't give one fuck what your definition of "success is".".

These are your words and ideas, not mine. I merely used the word success. You're the one making assumptions/projections, not I.  You didn't even ask what my idea of success was before you went on a minor rant. You don't find your words negative? What in either of my posts made you think "I am under no obligation to live my life the way you think I should.". When did I even come close to suggesting anything about your life?

Yea tell my why I should not be hostile to such a judgmental and condescending remark? Now you are back peddling.

Your words not mine "Wow. Sounds like this word has definite negative connotations for you. Sorry."

Exactly what negative connotations? If anyone is protecting and passing judgment it is you. My comments on your original post was only the statement that there is no script to life, and the only time I get judgmental is when people look down on others. It is also not negative to state the odds, that does not make one negative, it makes them realistic. It is also true that most people manage to survive the best they can, some have it better than others.

"Sorry" what the fuck does that mean? I'm not sad about my life, if you want me to be too bad, but I am not. Yea condescending remarks do make me hostile. You sound exactly like a theist "I feel sorry for you because you don't believe in god".
