Two weeks into the class I'm down ten pounds from what I weighed in at on the first day. So not as dramatic as after the first week but I'm still losing so that's good.

Finally got my knee evaluated. At Kaiser you have to take what they call a class. Starts with an anatomy lesson. Then moves on to exercises led by the physical therapist while an orthopedic doctor calls us over one at a time to discuss our x-rays. She immediately offered to give me a cortisone shot which has helped. So now I have a window of opportunity to work this knee into better shape. Unfortunately it is arthritic with inopportune bone growth where it isn't needed. Hate to think I'll have to scale back walks permanently.

Man that sucks.

Sometimes you have to work through pain or dose the pain to make it better. Doc gave me a high naproxin dose for my arches and knees one year until I "ran" through the pain (trans: strengthened everything).

So I haven't been tending this thread very regularly.  At the fourth meeting of the class two Tuesdays ago I had gained a pound.  Yikes.  But at the next meeting I'd gone down three pounds.  So I put it all in a graph.  At first glance it may appear that I'll weigh nothing at all in about 15 weeks but that's only because I started weight scale at 200 pounds.  That isn't my target weight for sure but using the simple graph maker I found on line it allows me to show each and every pound, and that helps the graph look more encouraging.  I'd love to have the problem of needing to change the vertical scale before the half way point in the year but I won't take that eventuality for granted.

Oh, and I should say these weights are all taken fully dressed and taken in the early evening when the healthy weight class meets. We have a pretty good scale but theirs is better.

Very good! I've been slowly trickling weight off finally, a quarter to a full lb at a time. The first week of getting back on a certain amount of calories was SHIIIIIIT, but it's mostly okay now.

Bum knees suck. Trashed my left one out at age 27 playing v-ball. Hyper extended over the top. Walking is about all I can do and that's on the flat. No stairs. The MD's keep wanting to replace it. I keep putting them off. Wear an acl hinged brace for off road.

Tried a stationary bike? It's boring but I can do it. A lot less knee stress.

Any one ever mentioned hyaluronic acid knee injection? Kinda like knee lube/grease.

Keep it up.

There are three of us guys in the class and the rest are women as is the instructor, a nutritionist. Apparently women's bodies shed weight more slowly. But at least you look better naked .. to me at least.

The stationary bike I have is an old fashioned upright one. I prefer the one in which you sit in more of a reclined position. Looks like this one or the other will be the best way for me to do any cardio exercise so long as my knee is an issue. It finally seems to be getting better but gets sore within a mile or two on a walk .. and I don't even try to run anymore.

Last report for three weeks!  We're going to Hawaii and are going to miss the class for the next two Tuesdays.  But I'm down another 3 pounds to 221.  Again, that is with cloths and shoes on.  At home I weighed in 217 earlier today.  Breaking 200 will be huge.  So glad I finally started doing this.

Have fun! I finally got my exercise apps to play nicely with the Marshmallow update on my phone so it's back to the treadmill for me tonight!

This is fabulous to see!

I want to join you in your journey. Currently, I sit at 213. I'm 5' 4 1/2" tall so that weight is not at all good for me. I also have activity induced asthma, which makes it hard to exercise without getting out of breath. But I'm going to start eating better.

Two years ago, for one month, I cut out all of the processed foods from my diet. I made everything fresh from scratch. I lost 12 pounds that month too. Perhaps I need to start that up again.

As someone who was suffering that, might I suggest taking up hiking at any and all local parks?

I found that once I got out into the woods and away from most of the city/cars, it was much easier to get walking exercise. The more I did it, the easier it got from the activity side of things. The cardio helps strengthen you up. Of course, I always carry an emergency inhaler, but at this point I could spend all day coughing here at work, but feel like superman hiking down into a gorge.
