Where were you when Challenger Exploded?
#61
RE: Where were you when Challenger Exploded?
I don't remember where I was or what I was doing, but I was about 15 at the time. I do clearly remember being in my Eng Lit class at some point afterwards, when a born-again friend of mine declared in all seriousness and without any shame, to the whole class, that "God" literally reached down and sabotaged the shuttle because "He" didn't want any humans snooping around heaven - I shit you not. Then he got all confused and offended when everyone, including the teacher Mr Gardner, couldn't stop laughing at him.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Good case for home schooling there. (Assuming stupid is contagious.)

Was that for Challenger or Columbia? Sorry, I probably manhandled the thread.

Curious. Why do the children come? What is the purpose?

Last I heard he was director of public relations at (I think) Lichfield Cathedral, about fifteen stone larger and 90% balder. He pops up on telly occasionally, as a mouthpiece for whatever scandal they need to paper over at the time.

I was shooting pool in the student union at my university. There were several televisions nearby, all with live coverage of the launch. When the vessel exploded, you could have heard a pin drop in the place.

By the way, and not to derail this thread, but it's almost exactly 35 years since Reagan got inaugurated. Do you know where you were then?

It was my graduation year at our equivalent of high school and I remember a classmate saying, great, now they have a president that wants to solve everything by taking the boom, boom-approach.

I'm gonna guess that you were born in 71.
